Angler Nicolay Zaremskiy of Gresham took home $66,487 — including turning in two $500 reward tags — during the 2011 Northern Pikeminnow Sports Reward Program.

Before the PC crowd made them change the name, they have had this deal for squawfish for some time. With a boat they are pretty easy to catch. As a nongame fish there are no limits. You check and and register and then check your fish in at the end of the day. You can easily covere your gas and snack money for a day trip out on the river.

That is better than lameass pikeminnow.

They have just about banned or replaced squaw in most names. No more squawfish. Oldsquaw are longtail ducks. We had a Squaw Creek that now has an Indian name.

USFS and Oreogn have been on that kick. Not to be outdone the USGS is replacing names on maps and even the BLM. On the Steens in eastern Oregon there is a grass meadow with big aspens.

In the late 1800s in an effort to increase business by taking their custom to the miners, sheepherders, and cowboys the local working women would travel up the mountain to this meadow to ply their trade. This allowed the ranchands and others better access to services and that brought more of them to the ladies. Menus for servcies were carved into the aspen trees though after 100 yrs they are hard to read if at all. This place was aptly named Whorehouse Meadows. In the 2000s SOMEONE complained about the sign identifying the name of the meadows. Apparently having to explain what that meant was too much.

It now bears the name Horse Meadows. And so disapears a chapter of significant local and colorful history to the mistress PC.
