Received a couple calls yesterday regarding the conditions of the forecast. The dog is laid up and hadn't given hunting a lot a thought for today, expected to work. 11:00 rolls around the wind starts blowing, the marsh is calling to me. I get work in order and make it out by 1. Lots of shovelers working very well the minute i set up through the rest of the afternoon. Feeling lazy and did not want to clean a bunch of birds. Figured I'd hold out for some better birds. Had some teal work and give a couple pokes, but never committed. The sprig were thick and i knew it was a matter of time before they would see my corner of the world. Can't flutter a whistle. Had a buddy recommend a whistle that flutters for me and it worked great. Had a group of sprig swing around me several times before finally committing. When they did I took two. A hansom bull, and would you have guessed, a banded hen. I was content with the two birds I had and my first band. The rest of the afternoon consisted of wave after wave of spoonies and a couple sprig bombing into the spread. Spent the rest of the day just taking it easy, watch the birds, and other hunters. Had no desire to fire another shot. Hung it up at a quarter to 4. The band is pretty worn, so I'm pretty excited to learn the info.

That's what you get for going without me. No, really. That's what you get. Good job!!! Been at it a bit longer than you and still looking for my first band. Need I say, I would have been whacking those spoons like no tomorrow, but I do admire your restraint. Glad to hear that some birds are around.

Yes, the USGS. The number can also be phoned in, but it was worn. Did a search online and DU directed me to the page. Canadian Wildlife Service sent an email as well with the banders info and the location of the field it was band in. Not much info, but cool none the less.
