This time of year I start thinking about annual costs like magazine subscriptions and organizations to belong to. Something has has come into a little more focus especially this year as Tuesday I confirmed that I will have a son come April. I got into hunting late in life and want to be able to share the experience with the boy in 6 or 7 years so I want hunting to still be around. Already an NRA member so the gun part is covered but am trying to decide which waterfowl org to join. I like that DU is a big name and national but also like the fact that CWA is a more grassroots organization that focuses on the state I was born in. Can only afford to join one this year so what are the good and bads from the members out there.

Of course if CWA wants to pick me for one of their hunts I applied for, they could save me the trouble of picking ;)

Hope you get picked for a CWA hunt!

Having said that, if it was down to just 1 organzation, I would pick CWA - hand's down.

They have the organization on the ground here in CA. They have a wonderful relationship with the DFG and staff. They place a HUGE emphasis on youth hunters and opportunities for them, as well as woman hunters. Since you are expecting that baby, and I am sure will share the sport with him - I would go with CWA.

You won't regret it.

This from a member of both CWA and DU (and Delta).

I would agree with CWA as a primary choice.

CWA hands down! They put their money on the ground here, and take care of kids like no other organization. Cqnt remeber the last kid oriented hunt I've seen DU sponsor, they love our Cali money but not much stays here!

If you can only do one I'd go with CWA too. However, if there's any way you can do both (like skip a stop at Micky-D's, or something like that, once a week for a few weeks) doing both would be better.

Another vote for CWA. I belong to both but really favor and get more as a hunter out of CWA. No question DU is awesome and lit the candle for a lot of other orgs, but here in Cali CWA is king for us average joes.

Congrats on the incoming babe!!!

If only one ,go with CWA, they are more local. I do both every year, Du is more into lobbying and nesting habitat. We need both to keep our duck hunting available and our populations healthy. Congrads on the expected son!

I agree with CWA. I usually join both but honestly, you will get more bang for your buck with CWA. And if you have kids, their junior programs are the best in the land. They also have several great, great private hunts that you can apply for and if you get drawn, they are first class experiences for sure.

None anymore! Appreently the winner bailed, I'm in and just joined CWA!
Swag wise do we at least get a cool hat with the membership or do I need to go to the online store and buy one.
