There seems to be several inquiries about wister from wister newbs
here's some of my thoughts on wister feel free to add positive comments if you wish
general info---reservation drawings start at 3 am non reservations immediately after
generally 3:30 or 4 depending on # of reservations showing up. Non reservation cards
are filled out the night before shoot days between 7 and 10 or 10:30
After you pick your spot go to the assigned parking lot where you will find your
parking spot then go to your intermediate sign which is the dike to get to your blind
site sign YOU HAVE A 100 YARD RADIUS FROM YOUR SITE SIGN to hunt from
where to hunt for first timers--- wister is an ever changing entity meaning what shoots
good one day may or maynot shoot the same the next day depending on the wind, sun
hunters shooting ability or lack of and how well they build blinds or call, that being said
the posted kill sheets will give you a general idea of where to hunt. It also depends on whether
you want ducks or geese or a chance at both whether you want a spot with cover
or you are willing to bring arrow weed and build a good blind
If you have a top 30 draw the usual most popular areas should be fine
ducks and geese---
Y15 A and B 312 B and C 115 B and C t10 t12 u10 u12
you cant go wrong with any of these pics
y15 A or B 's usually go first. bring your own arrow weed and build a good blind. using blind material is better
then nothing but arrow weed or salt cedar works best. building a good blind and staying hidden is crucial
at wister. Sure the birds will fly over you if you sit in the open walk up and down the dikes and so forth but if you hide
they will come in closer and give you and everyone else a much better chance, so please do yourself and everyone
else a favor and hide
for ducks ---all of the above spots plus( U14 # 1 spot for ducks) T14 513 B 413 B W11A
For non reservation any of the above spots plus
W11 C Y16 A and B S20
generally speaking the 5 and 3 spots shoot best
there are spots other than these that people prefer and do well on but these are some spots that are no secret
and should give the first timer a good place to start
go as often as you can and learn the reserve and find your own "secret spot "
Hope this helps some of the new guys
most of all have fun and have a good shoot
