View Full Version : December Hog Hunt Info Needed

Hello all. I will be hunting Vandy in December for Hog. Will be using rifle. It has been many years since I last hunted there and am starting off fresh. Can anyone recommend some good spots within the rifle (C) areas? I have my maps I just need some info on where to look. Thanks much for all of your help..

December could be good, could be bad. If we have weather you are basically screwed. One road is named "mashed potato road" for a reason......

I would concentrate on C1 on top. You need a 4 X 4 and good binoculars. If Sudden Ranch is open you can always check out a key and go there. Generally there's less pressure and the animals are out later and earlier respectively. Come by and talk to me at the gun club and I might have some good dope for you. It'll probably cost you.......(just kidding)

Where is Sudden Ranch on the map? Do you check out the key at the base DFG?

It's area C5 on the map. Way down south. And yes; you check out the key from the Conservation LE office. Good for 72 hours.

Thanks for the great info. So C1 at the very top or possibly C5 at the very bottom. I thought about maybe becoming a member of the gun club. I won't be deploying for at least another year so I wouldn't mind making some trips up that way. I am stationed at Camp Pendleton.

Come on down. It's the bomb for hanging a hog. We have a nice reefer and a big butcher area under lights. It's bitchin'.

I also plan on doing some pig hunting up there in dec. Is hunting allowed during the weekday, or is it weekends only? It'll be my first time up there so pretty excited. Thinking about scheduling a guide up in the coalinga area just in case I end up empty handed.

You can hunt all week on VAFB, depending on mission requirements. If there's a launch part or all of the base could be closed.

Cool, thanks for the info. A buddy and I will be headed up from San Diego and plan on hunting for a few days. It'll be our first time up there so we will definitely be in contact with you. Hoping to get some hogs but will probably do some bird hunting as well. Thanks again.
