Ducks Unlimited Seeking Director of Merchandise

This position will lead Ducks Unlimited's Product Merchandising and Inventory Management teams and will be responsible for product strategy, planning, development, procurement, warehousing, delivery and quality controls. The position reports to the National Director of Fundraising Operations.

The Director of Merchandise:

Develops and executes sound business strategies based on analysis and knowledge of the outdoors, hunting and sporting markets with the purpose of meeting DU's financial fundraising goals.
Provides expertise on competition and industry trends; and translates those trends into innovative, relevant products.
Leads product development/selection teams to create a balanced assortment in terms of: brand appropriateness, quality, value, price point, SKU count, etc.
Builds relationships with 3rd party vendors/licensees, and strategically partners to deliver a differentiated product mix that appeal to our customers.
Leads key supplier negotiations and guides product managers on effective negotiation skills and strategies.
Fosters an environment of continual training and development.
Ensures effective communication with the field fundraising organization, soliciting frequent feedback and integrating that into future departmental strategies.
Analyzes the business and identifies opportunities using key metrics that optimize:
Product selection
Inventory forecasting and management
Merchandise post-analysis
Prepares forecasts and budgets.
Education and Experience:
Four year degree in Business/Marketing/Management is preferred, master's degree a plus
A minimum of five to ten years of relevant experience preferred, including at least five years in management. Relevant experience includes:
Product development and sourcing experience.
Supplier management experience.
Procurement and inventory process experience.
Experience in implementing improved reporting/systems/processes a plus
Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
Strong negotiating skills.
Strong oral, written and presentation skills.
Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, etc.).
Strong organizational skills.
Flexible to deadline demands, ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Must be able to travel 15-20% of time.
