Last-Minute Items Added to Homeland Security Bill
New provisions to the homeland security bill would shield Internet Service Providers (ISPs) from being sued for sharing customer information with law enforcement agencies, and make it easier for law enforcement to the obtain identity and location of Internet users suspected of being threats to national security interests or of hacking into government computers or systems used in interstate commerce or communication.
The legislation now also calls for establishing the NET Guard, a volunteer force that would help restore communications and other vital systems in emergencies.
