So I did a buch of horse trading and ended up with enough cash to get a new rifle for my upcoming 'lope hunt. I have been looking for a lite rifle as I do backpack into the "deer factory" and found just what the doctor ordered.
While shopping at Bass pro in Manteca, Ca I couldn't pass up the deal on a Tika T-3 lite in 270 Winchester Short Magnum. I know, I know..."nobody has bullets in BF Egypt for that gun". I let a guy talk me out of a 300WSM 6 years ago based on the same arguement. Let us return to the most important lesson that many of you have shared though out JHO threads which is shot placement. It only takes one when you do it right.

If I only need one than all I have to do is put one in my pocket before I load the truck and I should have enough ammo for my tag. I can forget the whole rest of the box at home and still be able to hunt.

So here it is three weeks after I picked up the rifle and I got a chance to hit the range today. An older gentleman, his son and granson showed up just as I was getting ready to send the first round down range. I asked if they had earplugs and the older guy says "I don't need no damn earplugs". So I light the fire on the first one and I hear him say "OK I need damn ear plugs".:rotflmao:

I am TOTALLY happy with my choice though my shoulder took a beating. 12 rounds down range and it looks like I was hit with a hammer. The Tika is an awesome rifle and the 270 WSM should be great for any North American horned beast.

slap a quality aftermarket recoil pad on it like a limbsaver or other names which elude me right now. 12 shots won't feel like thing. I GAYRONTEE.

I own a T-3 lite in 30-06 and can honestly say, its the most accurate rifle out-of-the-box on the market for the price. The silky smooth action and crisp trigger make it a kill combo. Congrats on your choice!

I've got a few Tikkas and they all rock. Buy a limbsaver and it'll be the best gun you've ever owned.

First one was so nice, I just have to get the big brother just because....

1st. 270WSM
2nd. 300WSM

love everything about it.

Cammy,

Have the Tikka T3 in a 270 Winchester. I Love it. Being light it can be a bit hefty in the recoil department and i am prety much done after a box of shells. Just orderd a limbsaver this week. Hopefully that will help.

Congrats on the T-3, I also have one in 300WSM stainless, with an aftermarket pad. I took the stock off and floated it a bit better, and airbrushed the barrel and receiver prior to putting it back together. Like everyone else, I'm very pleased.

I decide to go for stainless after having a northern blacktail true trophy in my scope sights on my old 7mm, after a week of hunting in a mix of rain and snow my firing pin spring rusted and the gun wouldn't fire on what was truly a once in a lifetime deer. On a subsequent trip a mishap made my 7mm look more like a banana (that's a story in it's self), and I broke out the old wallet immediately and picked up the T-3. With a new Douglas premeium barrel, I use the 7mm as a spare.
