View Full Version : Lassen area??

What can I expect if I draw a Lassen tag? Fees, hunting area etc?
First of all, the drawing odds for Lassen are around 2%, or perhaps a bit worse. If you draw, it is a very good unit, with a diversity of habitat ranging from Pine Forests to high desert, and pronghorns can be found in all of it. They are scattered, but mature bucks live in every corner of the unit. The toughest part of the Lassen (or any California unit for that matter) pronghorn hunt is drawing the tag.
If you read Huntin Fool Magazine, that buck shown in the California section was a buck my son shot in Lassen last season. It was a very cool looking 15 1/2" buck, and was smaller than either of the two main bucks we had targeted. Those bucks were shot by other hunters.

I know tough to draw but I figure my odds are a bit better since I put myself, my wife and and my 12 yr old in the Lassen apprentice hunt. You never know? My main concern is public land vs private land. Access fee? Thanks for the info.
First of all, neither you or your wife can apply for the apprentice hunt, that is reserved for youth hunters. I assume you meant to say that you applied individually, also did that for your wife, and you applied your daughter for the apprentice hunt.
The Lassen unit has more freely accesible public land than you can hunt over the course of the whole season. There are antelope from one end of the unit to the other, though they're widely dispersed.
