Whats your take on red dots? Im currently looking for one to mount on my S&W 622. I dont want to drop a load for one. Its just a plinking pistol. I found a place i can get a Tasco Pro Point 5 for about $60. The only other ones ive been looking at are ATN and the bushnells.

Slyder:

Glad to hear you are mounting it on a .22. I tried a ProPoint 5 on my M1A and the recoil wrecked it in short order. The cheapest I have seen were BSA RedDots at Midway USA for $22.95 but that sale ended at the end of last month. I'd go for the ProPoint 5, by-the-way where can you get one for $60?

I got a ProPoint PDP4 and a PDP2 on a gunshow for $30!!! like new. Mounted the 4 on my SKS and it seems to work ok.

I have a Sightron on a 30-30 TC barrel (10") and it seems to do fine. It is always on target. I know of a Tasco PD4? that is on a .243 that worked great too. However, with a Tasco make sure when you screw the adjustment caps down they don't turn the adjustment screw. We had a problem with that until we figured out what was causing the scope to shoot low and to the left everytime we adjusted it.

Will make a note of that. I am amazed at how good you can group a 7.62 at 100 yards with a red dot. I dropped about 40 rounds into a target the size of a paper plate. Standing with no rest i might add. Gonna try coyote hunting with it this winter........if it ever freezes. Farmers dont like us tearing up there fields when its muddy.
