Sixty-One Year Old Rookie Profiled

9/25/09

DALLAS - Jim Schmidt ended a 35-year career in banking but wasn't ready to retire. When he left his desk job, he attended the Texas Game Warden Academy.

Now he is patrolling Navarro County and enforcing the state's wildlife laws as the state's oldest-ever graduate of the academy.

A story about Schmidt is one of several in the latest issue of Lone Star Outdoor News, which publishes today. Also included is an overview of bowhunting-only opportunities for taking deer on public land and a primer on catching snook without benefit of sunlight in South Texas.

The issue is available in print at newstands throughout Texas and can be downloaded for free at LSONews.com.

Now in its sixth year, Lone Star Outdoor News covers hunting and fishing across Texas and the nation. It brings the most credible and timely information to sportsmen and women two times per month and is available in print, with 40,000 copies audited circulation, and more than 10,000 monthly page views online at LSONews.com.
