Looking for a (humane) good trap for a problem raccoon - would prefer to catch it alive. Thanks in advance.

Havahart (http://www.havahart.com/) makes traps for Raccoon sized animals.

While the Havahart is easy to find, they aren't very well built and they are expensive. I had one some years ago and a good sized coon can pretty much destroy it. You can find a heavy duty trap for a similar price that will last a lifetime. Since they are big and bulky if you can locate a trapping convention near you, and this is the right time of year for it, you can save a lot of money.
Here is another one you might consider: MN Trapline Products Online (http://www.minntrapprod.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=204_242&products_id=2431) They are pet proof and the trap protects the coons foot once caught. They are much less expensive and a lot easier to store than cage traps also.

Good info to know about coons tearing up traps like that. A benefit of a havahart type trap is that it is great for catching feral cats also. :stir pot:

I have a few live traps I use mainly around houses or in barns when the owner doesn't want a pet to get caught in a foot hold trap. For feral cats I haven't found a trap yet that I don't like. :)

Coons are very hard on traps, they can tear it up in a hurry. My best "cage" coon trap I buy from this store F & T Fur Harvester's Trading Post - Cage Traps (http://www.fntpost.com/Categories/Trapping/Traps/Cage+Traps/)
I get the Duke Heavy Duty Series Cage Traps (http://www.fntpost.com/Products/Cage+Traps/Duke+Heavy+Duty+Series+Cage+Traps) atleast 12x12x30. This trap works great for coons.

F&T is a great company to order from. Everty thing (3 orders so far) I ordered was shipped the next day. The duke traps are indeed more durable

You can bulk up a havahart trap a bit by adding a layer of hardware cloth on the top and down the sides about halway. That way the coon can't reach around and scratch you.

Everyone has their favorite coon bait. I used different kinds and had success with most. A mackerel tied to the bottom of the cage behind the trigger plate worked best for me.
