What is the transporting law in CA re blackpowder guns? Do they have to be in locked cases? I just aquired a muzzleloader and it doesn't fit in any of my cases.

Maybe someone has a more definitive answer on this one, but to the best of my knowledge MLs are still not provided for under most firearms laws...even in CA. Like bows, they kind of slip through the cracks. The ATF still doesn't even regulate muzzleloaders as firearms (powder is a different story), although some states are beginning to do so.
However, to save yourself some potential heartache, I'd see about either breaking it down or getting a longer case to lock it up. I think that with cops it's an equal split between those who have a clue about firearms (besides their own service weapons) and those who don't. Even less of them know the ins and outs of firearms laws. Better safe than sorry.
