Border Patrol was hot on the tracks of...

Woke up this morning at about 2:30. Dogs barking and headlights from trucks and quads shining through my bedroom window. I thought at first that they were pursuing illegals, but then I remembered that my son had an airsoft war with his friends yesterday afternoon.
This is the 2nd time they've "tracked" my son.

No big deal really. We live in the farmland on the edge of the desert, about 5 miles from the border and less than a mile from a bridge over a large canal. All that puts us in a direct path of illegal crossings.
This was the 2nd time that they were tracking my son&#39;s activity and thinking that they were on to something. The first time was during the day and they were all over our property. I went out and talked with them and they said that someone had jumped over our fence. Well, my son likes to jump our fences rather than walk through the gate. I called my son out of the house to show them his shoe design and they called off the search.

I totally respect what they do, but they have been going over board this year. I&#39;ve seen them all over sunrise hwy and the 8. They&#39;ve followed me a few times and actually pulled over my cousin after he got out of his tree stand. I&#39;ve seen them in undercover trucks even. They pretty much ruined all my good spots. I kept catching them getting out and bushwacking it through areas I hunt. I never seen so much activity from them up there.

Glad shrub had the sense to turn them loose for just doing their jobs, too bad he didn't pardon them as he should have.

As one of those that wears the green uniform every day, let me say that I appreciate those that are thankful we are on the job. Although I currently do not work in California, I did at one time and realize that many people in that state despise what we do. I will be the first to admit that we are nosey and stop and question many people that are truley minding their own business and not breaking any laws. However most people have no idea how many people we encounter every day violating federal law. The hunter that is driving the back road is very similar to the smuggler that is taking the same road to avoid a checkpoint. The person that is just parking on the side of the road us doing the exact same thing that the person picking up a trunk full of marijuana is doing.

As far as the agents tracking the kids playing airsoft, it is amazing how many times you will start tracking a set of footprints and find a group of illegal aliens at the other end.

Sunrise Highway was mentioned. If you were trying to avoid a checkpoint by walking (the one in Pine Valley) where do you think you would end up? There is a lot more going on up there than most people realize.

As far as the Ramos/Compean thing, I have my own opionion, but I believe that they have no business wearing a badge. I believe that if they were in the rightt and had simply reported the shooting, then none of this would have happened. Since they tried to cover it up, then they dug themselves into their own situation. I think that the sentences they recieved were too harsh and I agreed with the commutation, howeverr they did what they did and have no business working along side the 99% of agents that commit themselves to doing the correct thing. Again this is just my personal opinion.

Very well said and I appreciate what you do to keep our boarders on lock down!!! One of my buddys is a USCBP agent out in Algadones area.

My buddies and I go jeeping now and then out east if Indio and I always think about who might be watching us. Always keep an eye out for illegals as well, but have never seen any, well not in the open desert at least.

I have hunted IV and PV many times and have not had anything but friendly interaction with BP down there. Yes, they are everywhere and I like it like that. As much as they may inadvertently pooch my 4 legged coyote hunting, nailing the two legged yotes gets the nod from this hunter. Once these guys realize who and what you are, most will ask how you're hunting is going and may even direct you a spot. Gotta love the guys in green, they are on the front lines w/o kevlar and are way underpaid. Lord bless them!

PS: Be careful coming around som of those dirt road turns...those BP guys fly and have scared the bejesus outta me before. I creep around blind corners after averting a near head-on in PV once.
