I was reading the Hunting Regs. the other night as I was going to bed and noticed that there is an open hunt for these sheep/goats. I have never hunted them or had any contact with the species for that matter. Where in California are they(desserts I presume) what is the hunt like (ie shot distances, terrain, weather, best calibers etc.) I am developing a desire to hunt these guys so any help would be great.

Here is some information from the SCI Record Book of Trophy Animals Edition IX.
Aoudads were released on the Hearst ranch-mostly unfenced-in 1924 in San Luis Obispo County, Cal. and have since populated nearby areas.

That's all the information I have seen about them. It might give you a starting place. Aoudads are about the wildest of big game to hunt in a wild environment. They can be quite difficult to find even in areas with high populations. They will hide in areas that no one would think anything could hide and let you walk right past them, or rum like the devil at 500 yards. These animals are highly adaptive to just about any terrain. A truly high quality sporting animal, to say the least. Here'a a picture of a record book ram I took free ranging in New Mexico several years ago.

Dave, they are extremely fine table fare. My wife claims the likes Aoudad batter than any of the other wild game we've had. I rank it fairly high, but there's a couple of critters I like better, but not many. Good luck with your search. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif

Has anyone actually hunted Auodad in California?
Also, has anyone ever used the below mentioned guide?
