Remington Arms Steps Up for D.C. First Shots Effort
9/23/08
Donation Aids Program in Introducing Newcomers to Shooting
NEWTOWN, Connecticut -- When Washington, D.C., residents take their First ShotsŪ and learn the basics of handgun ownership and firearm safety, it will be with the help of Remington Arms Co.
Remington has provided all of the ammunition that is being used at First ShotsŪ seminars in the D.C. area this month and next month.
Developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and hosted by independent shooting facilities, First Shots provides participants with a comprehensive introduction to shooting by qualified range operators and instructors that includes firearm safety, local ownership requirements, shooting fundamentals, hands-on instruction and how and where to continue.
"Remington is pleased to be involved with First Shots," said Scott Blackwell, Remington Arms Co. president of global sales, marketing and new product development. "This comprehensive program developed by NSSF safely introduces newcomers to handguns and shooting fundamentals. As an industry, we should responsibly promote the shooting sports and support introductory programs such as First Shots."
As First Shots seminars are held free-of-charge by independent shooting facilities and non-profit organizations, Remington's assistance is vital to helping these small businesses and non-profits offer the program to newcomers to shooting in their area, said NSSF First Shots Manager Cyndi Dalena.
"Remington has a long history of promoting safe, responsible firearm ownership and shooting sports, and NSSF is proud to work alongside them in this effort," said Dalena. "With the support of Remington and all of our industry partners, First Shots is helping to attract new and enthusiastic shooters at ranges across the country."
First Shots is one of many NSSF programs working to increase awareness of and participation in the shooting sports. For more information on First Shots, visit www.firstshots.org.
NSSF, founded in 1961, is the trade association for the firearms and recreational shooting sports industry and promotes the safe ownership and responsible use of products its members make and sell. For more information, visit http://www.nssf.org.
