Whitetails Unlimited Supports Texas 4-H Shooting Sports Games
7/28/08
Texas youth event has 2,100 participants
Whitetails Unlimited continues to support organized youth shooting programs with a donation for the awards banquet at the 2008 Texas 4-H Shooting Sports Games. The competition concluded last weekend and was held at the national Shooting Centers in San Antonio.
"The 4-H Shooting Sports program is one of the premiere programs in the country that introduce young people to firearms, archery and the shooting sports," said WTU Executive Director Pete Gerl. "We're always excited to help out however we can with the 4-H programs. Introducing young people to the shooting sports is vital to the future of hunting, and no one does it better, both in making it fun and in emphasizing safety, than the 4-H program."
WTU Field Director Kevin Greb attended the event, and helped with a fundraising event on Wednesday night during the competition. "There are 2,100 contestants here, from all across the state of Texas, and everyone is having a great time," said Greb. "That's pretty remarkable, since the hurricane has been providing us with driving rain, winds and even a tornado just a couple of miles from here."
Storms from Hurricane Dolly soaked the San Antonio area during the week, but the competition took the unusual weather in stride.
Last spring WTU also provided support for the 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors Workshop in Texas. "Texas has a long history of involving young people in the shooting sports, and the 4-H program is working hard to continue that tradition," said Greb. "I'm happy we can give them a hand."
