View Full Version : what to do with Iraq?

theres been a lot of talk about invading iraq, and hopefully ousting sadaam (something we should of done 10 years ago). but this time around we dont have too much support, and we could/would look like the bad guys and maybe inspire more groups to threaten or attack us on our own soil (possibly part of osamas plan).
so what should we do?
part of me is thinking that there is a lot of war talk, without a lot backing it up, meaning that GW might be bluffing to inspire the iraqi citizens to oust sadaam without us even lifting a finger (too bad we wont get that lucky).
maybe our best bet would be to send in a sniper assassination squad to take out sadaam, and not get messy with bombing and land warfare.
or maybe GW should consider a "Bay of Pigs" type thing, training iraqi natls to go in and do the job, and of course hope it works this time around.

What will happen and what should happen are, of course, entirely different questions. There's no doubt (in my mind) that the U.S. is going to attack. There's just too much military buildup.
Here's my prediction of what will happen. On 9/11/2002, the U.S. will attack Iraq. The UK will be by our sides, but no one else. Bush/Blaire will dish out a list of exactly why this is being done, including never before shown evidence that Iraq had a direct hand in the 9/11/2001 bombings. The war will last several weeks/months. The first week or three will be spent in the air taking out anything that could remotely be a threat.
Maybe that's just me hoping.
What should happen? The U.S. needs to be absolutely consistant and above-board in everything we do in that region (and elsewhere for that matter). The people there (in general) won't hate us or terrorize us for taking out Saddam. The key isn't to get them to like us. They'll never like us. The key is to act in a consistant and everything out in the open manner. Yes, we support Israel. Here's why. There's nothing you can do to make us stop supporting Israel, so knock it off already. We'll support you too if you move from a dictatorship to a democracy. And although even plain, fair, and above-board dealing will not make them like us, it will make them respect us. And, for that region of the world, that's as good as it's likely to get anytime soon.

as long as it ends with Sadamm and all his sons lying dead i'll be happy. it won't do any good if we go in and just take Daddy out, we have to take out the two mini-me's while were at it.

IMHO, it is fight him now on our terms, or fight him later on his terms.
I don't think that ground troops will be used until it is cool enough to wear chemical suits and not die of heat stroke.
He must know that we mean to kill him, therefore, he has nothing to lose by using chemical/biological/nuclear weapons.
If I were Saddam, the first thing I would do after being attacked, is to launch some horrific weapon against Israel. Then I would try to put on the mantle of a victim of Israel and their pit bull, the USA; trying to rally Arab support for my cause.
The other dictatorships in the area can't be too happy about the prospect of having a democratic Iraq as a neighbor, and might come to his aid.

My idea would never happen but a parkinglot the size of the whole middle east with a MceDees on it with a sign saying "over 10 million barbequed" sounds good to me.
Some new electronic incapacitating weapons will make their debut.Substitute Iraqi television commentators installed by us will report to the Iraqis that Sodom is/was under siege by his countrymen, thereby uniting native resitance (hopefully). From then on its anyones guess as to the mop-up.Say a prayer for our boys. The softening up has already begun, southern no-fly zone, etc.

We will attack, thats for certain. It will be messy. I think he will use NBC weapons against us. he knows that with our troops on the ground, we will not send NBC back at him. I'm all for the hunter/killer teams to take out all the husseins (sp) and top iraqi officials. Those snipers are good, and if they can find the bastards, let them do there jobs.

Look for a 2 or 3 prong armor attack coming from neighboring countries. The XVIII Airborne Corps, led by USAF CCT, will take an airfield or two inside Iraq in an airborne assault, opening up the resupply lines. It'll be fast and furious fighting, blitzkreig at it's finest. With British SAS and our D boys probably already operating in Iraq they will quickly hunt down Saddam and fix his wagon. CIA already has two puppets to prop up in Saddam's sudden departure. Tis good to be the King no?
Only gotcha is Saddam getting some nasties off to land on Israel.
The real head of the terrorist snake is Iran and their whacked out mullahs who are bent on destroying the US. Remember 1979 when Iran declared Jihad on us? They consider it still on but many of us have forgotten them. In a perfect world, that heavy armor of ours would hook right after steamrolling Iraq and take on Iran. I don't think our leaders have the stones to do it or the support but they know where the terror is originating from. I say let the 7th armor lead the way into Tehran for some payback for those 300 Marines in Lebanon.

Jesse,
From what I hear, the younger generation is getting tired of living in the middle ages. I say work a fifth column on them, and they will overthrow the mullahs themselves.
We didn't become the most powerful country in the nation by listening to these whimpy countries. Most countries didn't fall becuase they were beaten by another country. They fell from with-in. It's the same thing the Democrats and these wishy washy countries are tring to do to us. These whimps will be the firsts ones hiding behind the USA and Republicians when the crap hits the fans. The pinko Democrats were the first ones to say we weren't prepared for 9/11. Now they are the first ones to say we shouldn't go into Iraq. Come one which way do they want it.
In the USA for the most part we can all have different believes and still get along. In the middle east if you don't think thier way they believe you should die. Most of the worlds problems stems from the middle east. It's time to make a change. Hey Japan turned out pretty good after WWII.
GW has my support! God Bless our service men if we goto war. If it were only a prefect world.

El V,
5th column on Iran or Iraq? I think we've already tried in Iraq with the Kurds and it ended with Saddam gassing them into submission while we watched. Nothing like sticking your neck out and finding out your buddy wants to sit this one out.
I agree we should be sowing the revolution seeds in both countries. I read an article awhile back about a guy here in L.A. who was the happening SAT TV broadcaster into the middle east. He kept getting jammed by the governments but SAT dishes are popping up all over Iran and Afghanistan. You would think our CIA would be pumping this guy up to send those images of what they are missing to help topple those mullahs. It appeared this guy was on his own, he was a native Iranian.
An internal revolution would be less US soldier bood spilled and I think more acceptable to the muslim nations. You just know PSYOPs is working overtime in that region.

Jesse,
First of all, good site. Thanks for the invite.
5th column in Iran. The youngsters are getting tired of living in the middle ages.
The more that can be done to secularize Islam, the better off the world will be. As long as the historical interpretation of Jihad is an idea in vogue, there will be no peace in the world, and a great danger of eventual world war.
Historically, Jihad is an institution of Islam. Up until very recently, it was always resulted in some form of violent conquest and assimilation of the vanquished (or them being recycled into the earth from which they sprang). Only in the last 100 years or less has it been noised about that jihad is an inner struggle of the soul.
It is a peaceful religion, provided you agree with them.
There is a "cultural" civil war raging in Isalm, to determine the future of the religion, and by extension, the meaning of jihad. The moderates are afraid to speak up, lest they be killed, and Shariah law is becomming the civic law in more and more countries. Witness several states in the northern part of Nigeria. The law is barbaric, and sanctions atrocities on infidels in the name of "Allah".
If the radicals win the struggle, then 9/11 will be only an opening skirmish.
