Hello,
I was wondering if any of you have fished near Portland, Oregon? I am going on a trip in May with my wife and thought I might try to get an idea of areas to possibly fly fish.
Thanks,
Jonathan

How much time do you have to travel. I'd head over to the deschutes if it were me.

D3Smartie,
Thank you for your reply. How far is the deschutes from Portland? Is there places to wade or do you have to have a boat? I was looking at your profile and saw your were a fly fishing guide, where do you guide and what is the pricing.
thanks,
jonathan

I think its 2 but might be 2.5 hrs. google maps says 2hrs 17min. from Portland to Maupin. There is some very good public access and walk and wade fishing. I always liked walking upstream on the west side of the river from the bridge at Maupin.
(I am not 100% sure on the regs of the Deschutes so make sure it is open.)
I guide all over the state of washington for steelhead and cutthroat trout. as well as a little bit in oregon for steelhead and small mouth bass. i dont guide the deschutes but i sure fish it every chance i get.
I met my brother down there last june on his way home from college and we had a great time.
There are some very quality fish in this river

Thank you, D3Smartie, and tmoniz, for your replies. D3 those are some really nice looking fish. I still am trying to decide whether to try my hand at going solo, or maybe using a guide. Again thanks for the links and relpies.
Thanks,
Jonathan
