Ruger Number 1 Rifle Raises $25,000 for Olympic Shooting Team

3/5/08

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO – A Ruger Number 1 Rifle brought $25,000 at auction during the Western Hunting & Conservation Expo, February 9th in Salt Lake City, Utah, with proceeds benefitting the USA Shooting Team. Expo host and USA Shooting sponsor, the Wild Sheep Foundation, provided USAS with the fundraising opportunity to support the 2008 Olympic Shooting Team.

Industry partners TALO Distributors, Ruger, Baron Engraving, Hardigg Storm Case and Hornady Manufacturing contributed to the auction item which included a one-of-a-kind engraved Ruger Number 1 rifle, travel case and ammunition.

“This was an amazing display of collaboration and support from the industry partners that got involved and contributed to this project”, said Buddy DuVall Director of Marketing for USAS. “Bob Coyle with TALO came up with the idea of doing a big game caliber rifle for this auction and the Ruger Number 1 in a .375 Ruger caliber was a perfect fit.”

Since 2003, TALO has worked with the USA Shooting Team to produce two TALO Exclusive Ruger/US Shooting Team model rifles and a pistol which have generated over a quarter million dollars in royalties for the U.S. Shooting Team.

“The TALO wholesalers are very proud of our association with the inspirational athletes of the USA Shooting Team. We plan to continue to support their efforts”, said Bob Coyle, Executive Director of TALO.

Ruger donated a Number 1 with a special WSF001 serial number to commemorate the name change from the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep (FNAWS) to the Wild Sheep Foundation (WSF) which was unveiled at the recent Expo. Previously involved with the other TALO/Ruger/USST projects, Baron Engraving provided custom engraving for the Number 1 by debuting a brand new piece of artwork featuring a dramatic eagle scene on the left side of the receiver and a tribute to the retirement of the SR logo on the right side. Further details include a “Victory in Beijing” banner with USA Shooting Team and Wild Sheep Foundation logos in addition to the hand engraved scroll on the receiver with 24kt gold accents.

“It gives everyone at Baron Engraving great pride to support OUR team! Your skill, dedication and competitive spirit is an inspiration to all of us”, commented Dave Baron of Baron Engraving.

To complement the Number 1, Hardigg Storm Case provided a customized iM3200 travel case with fitted foam insert and Ruger logos on the interior and exterior of the case. Hornady Manufacturing added to the offering by providing a safari case of custom Hornady .375 Ruger ammunition. This project resulted in a unique package appealing to collectors as well as hunting enthusiasts. Photos of the Ruger Number 1 can be viewed at www.taloinc.com (http://www.taloinc.com/).
