No hate mail please!!!

I just feel that having a firearms youth only hunt on October 27-28 will severly hurt the bowhunters from the 27th-till the opening of firearms season. Let alone still have many deer spooked or killed when the firearms season opens.

I feel that this is a poor choice of timing, let alone how many dads will fill the tags or have the son show up during check in time.

I am glad that the youth are coming out and beginning the sport of hunting. However, I just feel that they can learn during the regular season just like I did.

Hope I didn't hurt any feelings.

What do you think?

I think you hit the nail on the head.

I agree the timing is bad, it should have been the w/e right before turkey season, when the turkey hunters and guns would be out the next 2 weeks anyway.

I also think their "escorts" should be over 18 or maybe 21 so someone is Legally Responsible for the Youths actions.

I doubt if it will be very crowded in most areas of the state but I think it should take place on some of the conservation areas, similiar to how the Special Black Powder Hunts are done. ###There would be more control then.

At any rate, I do support Youth Hunts.......

###I support the youth hunt but agree about the timing being bad and Dads filling tags, this is a bad move.
###But heres the kicker, the first time a bow hunter is shot 2 things will happen:
###1: They will discontinue this youth hunt.
###2:Archery hunters will be reguired to wear blaze orange.
###I dont know about you but this is the best time for bowhunters and i dont want to be shot by an overly excited youth,OR an overly excited adult, and if the big one i have hunted for and worked hard to try and tag gets shot with a gun im going to feel mighty let down.

Bowhunters are required to wear orange that weekend.

I'll tell you, I will be on my property that weekend but I won't be hunting...no way.

I believe in Junior hunts. I think kids should start their hunting on a positive note. I dont think that junior hunts should coincide or conflict with any other hunts. ### ### ### ### ### Fubar

I hunted in the youth turkey hunt this year and I got one. ###I also got another later on in the year. ###My dad got one and my brother also got one in the regular season. ###It didn't seem to scare the turkeys very much. ###I even got my second on public ground. ###And had 2 shots about 400 yards away.

It will also get the kids out of the way. ###If a kid is hunting with a parent that knows what they are doing I would be a lot more worried about the fools that don't know what they are doing. ###And about the deer being spooked they will have all bow season to do that.

We have ground right next to public ground and I got a doe with my bow and a buck with my gun. ###And marmot up there shot at two nice bucks with his bow. If those deer aren't spooked by gun season they aren't going to be spooked by kids.

Each year there are kids the same age as these ones going out hunting the first day of gun season along with the fools that do what ever they want. ###There is going to be an overexcited kid every year some where. ###Or an overexcited adult.

I am not criticizing anyone but this is just my opinion.

Long live Duder!

Duke, did you say you shot at a turkey 400 yards away? ###what were you using, that's a little far for a shotgun!

Take a kid or an adult hunting any time you can. If you haven't noticed there are more non-hunters than hunters. We need to get future generations involved if our sport will survive.

Tinhorn I bet he meant 40 yds.

Duke ###Congratulations on the game you bagged. You did better than a lot of my buddies last year. ### Fubar

I hunt only private land so the bowhunter/youth gun hunter situation is not a problem for me. My only problem is its the same day/weekend as the youth duck hunt - so we gotta choose what to do opening morning! Its gonna be a great weekend in the swamps with the boy!

As for the dads bringing there sons along at check stations, ###that may happen during rifle season anyway!
###I think a youth season is a positive. ###With all this negative reaction toward hunting, like peta and such.. we need to get our youth invovled in a positive way. ###I did that with my son many years ago at the Weldon Spring youth hunt, and now he now he is a reasponsable young adult hunter!:TST

Sorry about that. ###I wasn't to clear. ###I meant their were two shots on the public ground near us about 400 yards away. ###Thanks Fubar.
