USSA is an organization in southern Wisconsin that does some really neat stuff all over the country. When I get a request from a terminally ill person, youth or adult, they are the first and lately the last call I need to make. About as quick as I ask, the person has a trip lined up, totally cost free. Great gal that runs the place. Since starting, she has granted over 4000 wishes to people with special needs. Basically, those with terminal illnesses get immediate help. They fill out an application with Dr. stuff, etc. just to be sure of honesty (you would be surprised what some people will try!) then things are put together quickly. Disabled children are next on the priority list and she does perfectly in granting their wishes. I've got several places that I have used for this type of thing but the last several have simply gone to USSA. Brigid, the president and founder, gets trips donated from outfitters all over the country. Here is the story of a huge bear hunt they did last fall.

I've approached you before asking for kids or terminally ill adults for this place because they've got a lot more trips than they do people to use them. Please let anyone know who could benefit! I hate the thought of someone potentially dying, wanting nothing more than a special hunt, and not knowing where to go. Brigid even takes kids who are too young in many states and teaches them firearms safety so they can get out before it is too late.

I thought maybe USSA had died?? My wife and I donated our bear tags about 4 yrs ago and should draw again this year or next-- were going to donate at least one again but haven't heard NADA about USSA in several years--there are many more outfits out there but I like idea of one here in Wisc-- I'd also be willing to assist with upland bird or watewrfowl hunts--Two kids who got our tags got bears-- one was named Jordie(Y) but we haven't heard anything about him since hunt-- did see his pic at Wal mart once.

Sorry I took so long to get back to you, but I haven't been on here lately. Drop me an email at don@afarcry.info and I'll call Brigid at USSA and see what happened. They are going strong with almost 7 years in business and 4300 wishes granted!

It never came through. I went through what my provider thinks is spam as well figuring it might have got caught in there. Would you mind sending it again and maybe putting "bear tags" in the subject. That'll make it easier to spot if it gets caught in there. don@afarcry.info

Thanks!

Well, bad news and good news. On the down side, I never received your e-mail again. However, I talked to Brigid and she knew exactly which child you were wondering about. Last word was he was in remission. Unfortunately that was almost two years ago and the moms phone number quit working so we don't know anything from there.

As far as upcoming tags, she said they are planning over 70 bear hunts in Wisconsin this fall so the need for tags is huge if you could be generous again.

Just to keep you up on things, the USSA web site is at http://www.childswish.com and they have been steadily growing, granting over 4300 wishes to date!
