Hey Guys,

I just booked a trip to the Cibola Sportmens Club for the last day of the season and I was surprised to find they still had plenty of openings.

Is there something I'm missing here?

I'm pretty new to waterfoul, but I would have assumed these guys (like all good guides) would be booked far in advance.

Is this a bad hunt? Is my timing bad?

I'm committed either way and I'm not making any changes. Just wanted to know if I was missing something...

thanks for the info.

I have never hunted there, but every report I have read was about slow hunting.

Gato Gordo,

The best hunts are usually when the geese 1st get to the river (November). So what you've got is end of season educated birds, and a full moon. Not a good combo, but you never know. Good luck, the experience should be worth the cost.

Ahh the full moo. I hav eheard so many stories that conflist each other about a full moon ad the effects on waterfowl. Good or Bad? I do realize that it gives them more light to see their food and to feed it noght, but is this true? If so, could anyone elaborate with what they know regarding the full moon and waterfowl?.......

Gato, I talked to hunt4geese who is the son of the owner's 2weeks ago and the birds were starting to move around more in the valley. There were shooting well then. Send him an email or call them and ask how they are shooting now.

Some guys were complaining about Cibola Refuge carving out new ponds that were holding the geese on the refuge but both days I filmed the geese at the ponds they were just using the old pond on the north end. There wasn't a duck or goose in the new ponds although Joe said the ducks were starting to use the new ponds. The new ponds are just to the east of the nature trail where the first pond went in years ago.

Hunting in Cibola has been up and down, but we see it is slowly picking up. The Fish & Game estimated 3000 birds moved in last week. In addition to this the California farmers can not water thier crops in January, thus bringing the birds to our fields. As far as not being booked up this year, it's suprising me as well, my guess is that it is somewhat due to the economy. This however, is a good thing, giving the fields time to rest, bringing geese and ducks in to feed on them.
With these factors in mind I foresee you'll have an excellent hunt.

You have to be able to hit birds when hunting. I've seen you shoot........ http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-bag-on-head.gif http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-faces-toast-beers.gif

Hunt4geese,

Do you have any information on available hunt through the rest of the season? If so, give me your contact information so we can talk.
