View Full Version : Is it just a matter of time?
We have a very large deer herd here in PA and i assume it'll be just a matter of time before CWD spreads our way. I don't know much about the disease and was wondering if there was a good site for information about it and the chances that it'll spread into PA or surrounding states.

Look up at the top of the thread. There are some good links that have a great deal of information.
I am not looking forward to this hitting Missouri at all. One of the things that I hold close to my heart is my joy for deer and deer huntng.

So much is not known about the transmission of the disease. ###It may be a naturally occuring mutation, and therefore present throughout. ###I've heard it shows up where copper is lacking in the soil, but I find that sketchy.
It would be wise for states like PA with high deer densities to reduce the deer numbers to slow transmission. ###Shoot more does!
The PGC is agressively trying to reduce the deer herd by education but it seems to be taking ahold very very slowly. Unfortunately most PA hunters would rather take a spike buck over a mature doe. One way or another the results will be obtained. I just hope it's by change in attitude and not by some other means (CWD, Controlled culling of the herd, etc).
