Raghorn:
First of all let me welcome you to the BEST hunting forum on the net, you will have a good time here, this forum is full of great people.
Now on your question, I believe you still have to check in at the station and pick your area, and of course you can change it for the next day by checking in at the station again. ###And your permit is either for the weekend $25 or you can get the whole year for $70 (if they haven't changed their prices, if so, somebody please correct me).
If nobody is at the station, I don't know what to tell you, but it;s better if you get there real early in the morning or you catch them at the end of the day after your hunt to do the zone change within the base.
Good luck on your hunt over there and enjoy the forum!

nope thats it I was just checking. If it's closed due to training thats that. No access. You should call the info line before you go though. It will tell you if it's open or not. You probabaly know that though

IF your going to the right area, then the base must be closed to hunting. ###Liek Wavesfr says, call before, the message will tell you if it is open and what areas will be open. ###Make sure you call on thursday, that is when they update it for the coming weekend.
And once again welcome to the forum.

Socal: Still trying to get a hold of my buddy in Santa Maria. ###I'll update soon.

Sometimes they post what areas are open on Wednesay. ###However, make sure you listen and confirm that the information is for the weekend you want to hunt.
I have been listening to the recordings for laughs and giggles and it seems like a lot of the good deer units have been closed during the archery season.
