I went to the San Ramon Post Office today and low and behold right next to road was a spike buck. Made me wonder where people see deer that don't seem to belong there. Where have you seen deer and not expected it?

I have seen deer in two places that are really good.

1) A doe ran through the Dept. of Fish and Game Parking lot in Redding. ###

Neat, yes but number 2 has got to be the best...

2) I was playing high school football on a Friday night in Yreka, CA and a really nice 4 point buck(plus ?)(4 by 4 for you easterners) came onto the opposite end of the field and stuck around for a few minutes. ###This was in 1992. ###I don't know if it happens much up there but it was cool!

I saw a buck at a cementary once the night before the opener. A little ironic.

Heck,I deer hunt in a nasty gorge/valley system,smack dab between a high-falutin suburb and an eqauly high class golf course.

My old man killed one of the biggest bodied blacktails I've ever seen (168 pounds completley cleaned and skinned out)next to a church smack dab in the middle of town.

There's supposed to be some mighty big bucks at a cemetary here in town.They come out and eat the flowers off the graves,belive it or not.

I've often pondered "road hunting" down main street in Weaverville.About two summers ago I watched a 20-22 inch wide,massive 4x4 stop traffic one afternoon while he leasurely crossed the street.

The really sad thing is that most of these nice bucks around the towns end up getting creamed by cars,instead of going in someone's freezer.

In Marin County, where I grew up, you see deer all over the place. ###They live in the few open space areas and come into the home to eat the roses or other flowers. I am sure plenty of people feed them. ###Of course, you cannot hunt them because it is too populated and people are too liberal. ###They definitely have an over population problem. ###You can see them nightly if you know where to look...there is a nice 4x4 that I am tempted to pop with a bow:laffin-yellow::laffin-yellow::laffin-yellow:

I just remembered the deer we used to see when my Dad lived in Rossmoor Retirement community on the back side of Walnut Creek. Went to visit him shortly after he moved in and walking down the sidewalk were thre 4X4's. biggest danged blacktails I have ever seen. I hadn't seen a deer at that deer season and here I am looking at what was surely record book material living the high life of no hunting and lots of food. Darn near wrecked the truck.

An outdoor shooting range!!

Chabot Gun Club in Castro Valley: outdoor range, out above the sandbar in the trees about 80 yards behind the 50-yard rifle range. A doe and fawn, watched us shoot paper and when the rangemaster saw it, called a cease-fire until the safety officers could shoo it away while we all observed in awe.

Another good one, but not too surprising (yet quite sad): about a month ago a blacktail killed itself trying to jump a fence into my parents' yard. Tip of the iron fence stabbed it in the heart. It was a forked blacktail buck with velvet still on it. This happened near the hills southwest of Chino where some new housing developments are being built.

For the San Diego residents: Running across Camino Del Norte in Rancho Bernardo at 7:00 am. Three does about 1/2 a mile from I-15. I almost hit the center divide watching them run into the woods.

I work in a oil refinery and its full of dear. I saw a fawn today that still had spots. there is an nice forked horn that runs with a spike that I see 2 or 3 times a week and in the fall the big bucks come back.###last year we had mountain lion sightings that were confermed by F & G. I have seen pheasants, fox, rabbits, raccoons and befor I came to work here there was a pair of beaver that that lived in the creak. they got creamed by a truck. still prety cool though.

My front yard this morning, a nice three point , a good size forky and a spike. ###I told my wife it was sure tempting to grab my bow. ###She told me that was fine but don't worry about using my door key when I get home from work ###today, the door locks will be changed and my stuff will be sitting on the front porch. All kidding past, she dosen't mind me popping coyotes from the back deck, but she would prefer that I lwould leave the deer and the quail alone on our place. But she,s ok if I were to heard them over on to National Forest land about a mile way and then, well you know what I mean.

Probably the strangest was one morning about 4:00 there were 4 does in the middle of 15n right at Poway rd. trying to figure out if they wanted to jump the median or not. Not a lot of fun trying to control 35,000 lbs of truck and avoid hitting them.

Right on the side of Northbound I-680 just past the Fremont Auto Mall Parkway, two bucks (a 3X3 and a 2x3) was fighting. It was on the slope of a knoll facing the freeway. About five feet behind the two bucks was a concrete wall separated someone's backyard and the bucks. I pulled over on the side of the freeway and enjoyed the scene of two battling bucks for about 20 minutes. It was a good relief from the crawling traffics.

I work in Laguna Beach (pop 25,000). It's a small town by SoCal standards, but it's still a decent-sized urban beach town. We (the PD) get calls all the time about the deer running down from the hills and across PCH. They run down to the beach and swim for a while. I've been told this gets rid of some of the ticks. I once saw one swim at least a half mile out, a half mile up the coast, then back to shore, across PCH, and back up to the hills. People were asking why the lifeguards weren't trying to "rescue" it.
