I'm looking to get some rings and mounts for my new Marlin 25MN .22. I'm looking at a Leupold VXI 3 x 9 scope. MarinePMI on the forum here suggested using the Burris Zee Signature rings. I'm guessing I should get the medium rings? What kind of mounts?

Just slap me upside the head with a big tuna if I'm off already on the rings.

As Sadam would say, "Tanks!!"

I am using Weaver See Thru Tip Off rings on my 25MN. I like them because you can see under the scope and use your open sights if you want to. Great for finding the target when you can't seem to find it in the scope.

Jesse,

If memory serves right the Leupold 3-9 has a 32mm Obj and 38mm outside diameter. ###If this is correct the Medium rings should work. ###BTW, you may have to remove the iron sights for the scope bell to clear the barrel. ###

As far as see-thru rings...JMHO, but I steer well clear of them. ###They often make it hard to maintain a consistent stock weld, and with rimfires, their artillery-like trajectories make parallax an issue at extended ranges. ###I'm sure you've heard it all before about keeping the scope as close to the receiver as possible...

Did Rick get back with you on the switch barrel kit yet?

Thanks for the info you guys.

MarinePMI, I sent Rick an email but no word yet back.

I'd really like to keep the iron sights for just in case the scope goes out. Any ideas on what minimum size scope diameter I can get away with? Leupold does make a 2 x 7 ###I think that is smaller. Time to do some reading up on Leupold's website.

The 25MN is a bolt action rifle which makes having the scope close to the receiver an issue. The see thru rings keep the scope from getting in the way of an ejected shell.

I used medium tip-off rings on my Marlin 882 with a (gasp) Tasco 3-9 Pronghorn on it. ###(I know, Tascos are junk, they went bankrupt, etc.) ###I put that scope on 4 years ago, and it's done fine. ###With Winchester ammo, either Supreme or Super-X, I get inch or slightly better groups at 100 yards. ###I love plinking ground squirrels with this rifle. ###So much so, in fact, that I went out and bought the CZ 527 American in .223 to duplicate it but extend the range further. ###But I did put a better scope on the CZ...

Update on my 25MN scope. I used the Weaver medium tip off rings with a Leupold 3 x 9 VX II. The bolt clears the scope well enough to eject a shell but there is no scope clearance to remove the bolt for cleaning. So, it's high rings or see through rings if you want to be able to remove the bolt without removing the scope first.

I also chose to remove the 25MN rear sight to allow the Leupold scope objective to fit. It's a close fit and you could leave the rear sight since the Leupold has a generous amount of eye relief. It all depends on how far you slide the Leupold scope back in the rings.

Thanks for the info too you guys posted.

Jesse,

Sounds good (you getting the rig together pretty well it seems). ###Somehow I missed the earlier post you made (?). ###I spoke with Rick last Friday (AMMOe and I received the second gen kit last week). ###Ummm...maybe a few more weeks to clean up some tolerance issues, then a small (read probably 20) production run. ###You still interested? ###When you get a chance IM me, I wanted to talk to you about that short/initial production run.

I have a 25MN with Weaver see-thru mounts and a cheapo 4x12x40 Bushnell. The iron sites are useable and I replaced the stock with the optional synthetic (Choate) stock for $45.About 3 yrs. back a buddy and I shortened the box mag down to fit flush,if you take a little off the follower legs you can get 5 rounds in it.Gun and scope are completely cammoed for desert brush.I don't even shoot LR any more, perfect g-squirrel gun.
