Well,

I went out this weekend to give it a go at the local ground squirrel population. ###Man that thing shoots! ###Best of all, the ammo it seemed to like best was the new Velocitor CCI stuff. ###It didn't give the smack that some of the other stuff does, but I think it's because it's just going right through. ###It kills them dead enough though. ###Incidentally (before WBH let's it slip out) it goes through truck doors pretty well too. ###(Sorry about that WBH, let me know what the repair cost is). :smacking-head-mallet:

That barrel is really short, it seemed to be over the open door frame...

Jim,

It was a Fajen Silhouette stock I got at Midway USA, slightly modified of course (LOL!)

FellinDucky,

Thanks for the compliment from you and all the others who have replied. ###This particular rifle has been changed and modified over and over, during the past 10 (egads! has it been that long!) years. ###It's become one of my "I'm bored and need to do something" project rifles. ###

Holes in doors!?!?!?:surprised-purple::skeered:

Now that you shot yourself in the foot, lets hear the whole story!!!

MarinePMI

JDC,

Well the story goes...

WBH and I were driving down one of the agg field roads and this g.s. runs to his hole and stands there. ###WBH stopped the truck about 20 yds from him, and he continued to stare at us, not feeling any reason to go down his hole. ###WBH looked over at me and said "Tim, just shoot him. (for being stupid)". ###I said, uhhh...okay. ###I opened the truck door, got out (ducking behind the door so he couldn't see me). ###I then opened up the suicide door to the extended cab, pulled out the rifle, loaded a mag, popped the scope covers off, and then slowly stood up enough to see over the door, in betweeen the door and the truck body. ###I didn't want to rest the rifle on the truck (that being illegal) so I just pointed the rifle through the opening between the door and the truck. ###BANG! WBH had just opened his mouth to tell me "stop!" but wasn't quite fast enough. ###Initially, I thought the ejected brass had shattered the window, 'cause the door was vibrating! ###Then I looked and saw the .22 caliber hole punched right through the door frame (oops!). ###To make this story even more hilarious/embarassing the g.s. was still standing there, on his hind legs looking at us like we were stupid (which I guess I was guilty of being). ###Then I shot him. Hrumpf! ###He was taunting me! ###We then looked at the hole, I apologized, and WBH threatened to tell everyone at the next JHP hunt. ###He was saying he'll never let me live this one down. ###Incidentally the g.s. then started to crawl across the road (resilient little bastard). ###I then shot him again throwing him about 3 feet into the air and pretty much ended the feud we had. ###

Okay guys, let'em rip. ###I was so used to the 20" barrel, that since I didn't feel it bump against truck, I figured the muzzle was clear. ###Oops. 16" barrels are really short...

OH MAN! Mistakes happen, but that had to be super embarrassing!! At least WBH was understanding.

Did you guys go out to El Centro, or hang out locally?

At least nobody was hurt, except your pride.

You'll have to wait until I know you better before I give you a hard time about it!!! That day will come!

MarinePMI
07-25-2002, 11:55 AM
JDC,

LOL! ###Heh, heh, heh,...

We were out in El Centro, well more like Calexio. ###WBH and I have found a few honey holes for shooting ground squirrels. ###Good areas for lawn chair, modified camera tripod shooting rest, and an ice chest full of cokes and water. ###It don't get much better than that!

EL CAZADOR

That's nothing compared to the other infamous truck incident that WBH had in El Centro a few years back . . .

I'll let him tell the story.

JDC
07-25-2002, 12:29 PM
There should be some real good areas this side of Calexico, with some nice canal banks to use as viewpoints.

I guess the only other thing you could have asked for would have been 20+ degree cooler temps!!

Okay WBH kick down the story of the other wound your truck has suffered!?

Sounds like it's time for WBH to leave his truck home and someone else drive!!!

JDC, ###lets put it this way, I haven't laughed that hard in a really long time!!
It must have seemed like an eternity in the U-haul parking lot wiating to get the car dolly!!!!

WBH will have to tell the rest!!:laffin-yellow:

Saweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
I was a Gunney E-6 in the 3rd MAW IN THE 60S. WHEN WERE YOU IN OR ARE YOU STILL?

MarinePMI
08-08-2002, 01:14 PM
I was an E-5 Sergeant, spent 10 yrs in. ###Stationed with 2nd Med Bn, 24th MEU(SOC), and 1st SRIG (Surveillance, Reconaissance(sp?), Intelligence Group. ###I got out in '98, mainly due to my inability to sit still for some of the BS that was being forced on young Marines. ###My CO and I had a (ahem) difference of opinion on quite a few issues. ###Soooooo, with the FitRep system the way it is he gave me FitReps that were low enough to ensure I'd never get promoted (quite a few(5 to be exact) "excellant" markings vs the "outstanding" marks needed to get promoted) but not low enough for me to challenge them/him at Headquarters Marine Corps. ###Such is the political climate in the SNCO ranks in this day and age. ###It's too bad too. ###I saw quite a few of the hardest working, squared away Marines get forced out 'cause they cared more about the welfare of their troops than the politics of getting promoted. ###The 'Corps still has the earliest "up or out" policy. ###At 13yrs or the end of a enlistment that is less than 3yrs from the 13 yr limit, if you're not already selected for Staff Sgt, the 'Corps says "Thank you for you time, and effort...here's the door". ###All other branches you can retire (20yrs) as an E-5. ###Oh well, that's just another reason we're called Marines.

Funny thing, I had a retiring Master Gunnery Sergeant tell me the day he left..."Sgt Mancillas, you just came in the 'Corps 10 yrs too late. ###Don't take it too hard, it's just the way things are. ###New times, new games..." ###For some reason his comment gave me back a positive attitude about the whole thing. ###If anything, there was only one guy left in the 'Corps (out of the 27) from my platoon in the 'Gulf after I left. ###I guess they read the writing on the wall quicker than I did...

Basscat,

I got the stock on close out/over stocked sale from Midway. ###If memory servers right, I got it for $89 UDI (Unfinished Drop In). ###The wood behind the the thumbhole was them skeletonized and the stock refinished with tung oil and paste wax. ###Here's the link for Midway USA (http://www.midwayusa.com). ###Have fun!
