Glad to see you made it over here AMMOe. ###I'm sure your 30yrs experience as a gunsmith will come in handy to people with "issues". ###LOL! ###

Thanks, PMI. It took me a while to get here but, hey, I'm old. It's a wonder I don't fall asleep between keystrokes! Resized the 5mm Remington brass. No excessive anything noted,-no loose primer pockets. Next time out will be interesting. I pulled the 17 barrel this morning. It occurred to me that if I could lay hands on a 17HMR reamer I could adjust the shoulder and headspace on that unit as well. Someday, eh? ~Andy

AMMOe,

A .17HMR reamer huh? ###Hmmm...been thinking about taking one of those .17 blanks I've got and rebarreling the CZ .22Mag... ###Eh, I should probably finishing stoning the bolt lugs like you suggested, to relieve the tight headspace and see how it shoots first. ###I just haven't had the time...maybe tonight. ###As far as setting that .17 barrel back...those other sets of barrels should be inbound to your place soon enough, no sense in wasting your time (unless Andy Jr wants the prototype installed on his SSV, LOL!) ###I believe PPG has the .17HMR reamers available now...I don't know, I've got that .20-223 bug pretty bad...LOL! ###Priorities...Hmmmm.....

You know my uncle showed me a Remmington .17 that he bought brand new way back when. ###I can’t remember how long ago it was, but it was over 20 years ago and back when the gun was in production. ###He saw it on the shelf at a gun store for just under $200.00. ###Knowing his friend had just ordered one for a little more than $400.00 he figured he got a deal. ###He also feels the gun writers back then ruined the caliber. ###He said that after several shots the accuracy tends to wane due to the build up of powder deposits in the barrel. ###He developed some loads with a faster and cleaner burning Hodgens powder that reduced or eliminated the problem for him. ###Oh well that’s all the knowledge I have about the .17, but I do know now after seeing his I’d love to have one.

He showed me two other rifles, you’ll have to help me on the wildcat caliber, that shoot a 6mm projectile out of a 30-06 brass. ###He had bought one of the rifles and he built the other one. ###Both had heavy barrels, heavy stocks, and big scopes. ###He said he doesn’t use them for groundhogs any longer because it just didn’t seem fair. ###He was kidding of course. ###

He actually showed me some 10 or 12 rifles of the 100 or more that he has stuck in his closet. ###He’s retired now, doesn’t hunt any longer and only piddles with gunsmithing these days. ###He even turned in his FFL a few years back. ###I sure hope he considers me when he decides to off load some of those rifles he has, especially the .17 Remmington.

Oh, Andy by the way hello and welcome. ###JB
