Anyone here ever try to scope a Carcano 6.5mm? I would like to put a "scout" style mount on it but I've heard a Weaver side mount will also work Any advise would be appreciated

I'm not going to ask why you'd want to scope a Carcano. (I've shot them....) but the best arrangement for a "Scout System" is to take the original rear sight out and make/fashion/ a scope base to mount in it's place. There are similar systems offered for Mosin Nagants on some of the Military Rifle forums. I think the Weaver mounts for the carcano's are long gone, but it might be possible to mount a Soviet "PU" style mount on a Carcano with a bit of fiddling. Good Luck with your project! ~Andy

Thanks for the info the reason for trying the scope deal is that the rifle shoots decent groups but is about 10 feet high at 100 yrds with that non adjustable sight. I'd be happy with adjustable open sights but can't find any thatt will fit. the rifles already semi sporterized so aftermarket sites won't ruin it anymore than it already is.

Are we gonna start on the split bridge bolt thing again? (grin) ###I do have the 6.5 Carcano TS still, guess I'll follow your advice and use it to practice recrowning on, heh, heh, heh....

Could you file the rear sight notch deeper? Can't remember how this rifle is set up in the sight department. If you can file it deeper and when you have it shooting low enough dress off the rear sight blade so you can hold the front level with the top of the rear again.
Or You have the option of adding some weld to the top of the front sight to make it higher. Any way you can make the front sight higher will correct for high shooting.
Might check into replacing the front sight blade with a higher one. www.brownells.com sells sight blades of all types and heights....
Remember it is possible to scope the Carcano but Jack Ruby shot the best known Carcano 'smith.

I never thought of trying ther filing thing but the sights that where on it are gone now. I was looking in Brownells & saw the Williams WGOS sight & they make it for this rifle lol. With it & a Williams shorty ramp with Marble Gamegetter front sight , in the right height might work pretty good. Now the only problem is getting the $$$ to do it & find a gunsmith that will do it lol

Well I went down to Second Amendment Sports in Bakersfield last night & they want $300 to put on a williams wgos rear sight & a Williams ramp for the front. In my mind this is a rip off is there anyone here that can tell me how to do it myself? I can't see paying that kind of money on a $30 rifle that will get used as a truck gun. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-help-green.gif
