Lankyman;
I highly recommend a product called Mount Brite. It is a concentrated solution that cleans and protects mounts. I recommend it to all of my customers. You can find it at WASCO (1-800-334-8012). Part # RD316 (16 oz.) for $ 9.29 ....Mix according to the directions, either apply with a cloth or paintbrush, blot dry, wipe with a dry cloth in the direction of the hiar or feathers, let dry, then brush....that easy...Dan / Desert Wings Taxidermy

Mount Brite is a specially formulated foamless cleaner that brightens and conditions new mounts as well as restoring old mounts to their original beauty. Mount Brite can even clean smoke damaged mounts suffering from years of neglect. One easy application does it! Simply apply with a cloth or paint brush, blot dry, then wipe with a dry cloth following the direction of the hair. Let the mount dry completely, and then brush. Leaves no residue. But probably the most impressive use of Mount Brite is as a bird cleanser. Mount Brite cleans the dirtiest birds and leaves no dulling residue. Washing birds in Mount Brite prior to mounting will bring out colors you didn't even know were there. Try it yourself and see the difference that optical brighteners in Mount Brite make on your birds. This concentrated liquid must be diluted for use. For extremely dirty specimens, use a more concentrated solution. Mount Brite is environmentally safe, non-toxic and biodegradable.

Desertducker,
What is the best way to apply Mount Brite? ###Just place some on a cotton rag & rub with the grain of the hair or feathers? ###Will it work on fish & would I rub it with the grain of the scales? ###On a deer head's nose & eye areas, should I avoid the painted or sealed areas? ###Just wondering if this would cause it to crack in the future. ###Thanks for all the information.
