I am thinking about hunting Cow Mountain near Ukiah. ###I have never been there. One time I tried to go there but couldn't find the access road. I ended up going to Mendocino NF. Now I have a map from BLM. Is this place typical of BLM land (not very good for hunting)? or is it better then others? Any information will be appriciated. Thanks

Its real tough hunting, lots of hunters on the weekends, not much water andnot alot of deer.Take the Talmage Exit for access ,the South portion of Cow Mountain has the most deer around Red Mountain. There has been some small controlled burns in the North End ,but I have had more success at the South End.

I agree with the other post. ###Cow mountain is a tough place to hunt. ###There is a lot of OHV traffic and not too many deer. ###I have also hunted Turkey there with a few sightings but not a kill yet. ###I would say that you would have better luck on the Northern end.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like just another BLM land.

Talking about turkeys. I saw a bunch in Deer Valley area of Mendocino NF last July while bow hunting deer.

Deer Velley has a campground. It is very close to Upper Lake near Clear Lake in Lake County, about 150 miles north of San Francisco. You can easily find it once you get a forest map. I saw about 10 of them during my two day hunt there, usually in the forest near a meadow. I also saw a few feeding in the open in the private lands surrending the forest. I don't hunt them. May be that was the reason I saw lot of turkeys. Once I start hunting them, then they are no where to be found. You know how it goes.

Good luck.
