What does everyone do to get in shape for deer season? I jog/walk a total of 3 miles 5 times a week. I started jogging 1 mile and walking 2. Now I am jogging 2.5 miles and walking .5 miles. My goal is to jog 3 miles, 5 times a week.

I genneraly go up to my spots that I'm going to hunt wearing my full gear and hike around as often as I can scouting.

What do i do, well not a whole lot and I usually pay for it. Use to get out hiking in the desert alot, exploring around old mines and digging through the tailings finding crystals. But the last year or so, really nothing to tone the body other than getting the bow out right about this time of year and start shooting. I have a 3d that has bout seen it's days. Then i take the 3d up in the mountains and launch arrows from all different spots, simulating being in the field. I do this mornings then change the next practice to late afternoons to sundown. It really helps. In Janurary, I thought I would be wise and quit smoking, it lasted until a week ago. Almost went crazy, so now I have to find the buck with nasal problems that cant smell tobaco on me. Don't really do an awful lot of hiking around when I hunt anyway. Drive and spot and stalk.

Hmmm... interesting idea, getting in shape, physically, for deer season. ###

Actually, the last few years I've seen myself spending a lot more time sitting in front of this damnable box, instead of outside. ###But usually, the only difference between my off season and my hunting season is that I carry a gun when I'm hunting, and only a walking stick the rest of the time. ###In the off season, I'm just out there rambling over the rocks and down the canyons. ###

I also try to get to the range at least once a month in the off-season, and then increase that when Summer rolls around. ### I found that when I wasn't shooting regularly, my accuracy really slipped fast. ###

Other than that, I keep the right arm toned by doing plenty of 12 oz curls. ### I stop at McDonald's once in a while to keep my stomach conditioned to junk food. ###And just to keep in my hand at dealing with frustration, I try to understand my girlfriend. ###(Shhhhh....)

i find a big bowl of ice cream every night is the foundation for my fitness program.. somehow walking10-12 miles a week and some other excersise is not doing the trick... its on alot of our minds.. getting back in shape for hunting.. humping up the hill with an extra 50 lbs is no fun..

Well, I have been doing a new excercise. For the last two days, I have been climbing up and down pyramids. So, I have been getting a workout not only from all of the climbing but also from the altitude. Most of them were at about 7,000 ft.
I am not in shape yet but this trip helped a little.
