I made an early trip to Tejon to hunt for bunnies. I had seen a few out before the opener and decided to give it a try. Well I'm glad I did.

At first light they were out and I managed a limit in about 5-minutes. It kind of ended my day early, but still fun.

Nice! Is that a Savage 17hmr?

That's a Ruger in .17HMR and Bushnell 4200 Elite. A pretty good combo for small game out to 125-yards.

Just 125 yards. You can do better then that.

Nice limit.

Poor little guy. That will make a nugget. LOL

Switch, like your rifle Ive got one just like it in 22 mag. Ive got both color stocks too! I liked the black an green stock like you have so much I got one from Ruger and put oit on the 22 mag. Then I glass beded and free floated the old brown lam stock, got a green mountian barrel in HMR, so now its a 22 mag /17HMR shooter! Ive got another Ruger light weight in 17HMR so the Green mountain barrel doesnt get much use. If I ever get a chance to come out west I will use that green mountian a bunch. Good shooting on the rabbits.

i have that exact same ruger in 17hmr as well. its the target model right?
love that thing. although its gotten neglected because of the .204s. but for cottontails it would be perfect.

Do you have to pay fees to hunt there?

I wish I could hunt in my back yard....it's a whole city limits thing. My neighbor lady about passed out one day. I was kinda feeling her out one day(not literally) saying "yea, I really need to start thinning out some of these rabbits back here so they leave my garden alone." I guess I'll have to make sure she's at work if I do it cause she appears to be a bunny hugger.

Omegablood, yeah Tejon is a pay to play deal...essentially a trespass fee for access to the property. Lots of pigs, squirrels and rabbits.

Have you considered an Airgun? there are some very cool rifles and pistols and if you check your local regs you might be able to use a muzzle brake (deadens the noise much like a $ilenser).
the best adult airguns are german or english or opt for the crosman as there are alot of after market parts to fix your back door rifle. We are talking half inch groups at 30 yards if you do your part. Your shots would have to target the brain pan for humane hunting. Body shots will only injure the beasts.
