I've been trying to sell a motorcycle and this guy emails me wanting to know if I'll take a trade. He's offering me a 1911 Danish Krag chambered for the 8x58R. Says its been checked and fired by a gunsmith and all numbers match...just missing the bayonet and sling. And he has 60rds of ammo.
But......he says the stock has the "Duffle" cut...in order to be brought back from the war in a duffle bag as a souvenir. Im taking it was cut at the second barrel band....he says you cant tell when its assembled.
From his email............" the krag is the ultra rare danish version, has never been
reconditioned into a carbine, all numbers matching. the round is the 8x58rdk, I
have 60 rounds, 3 of which have already been shot but I save brass, and these
can be reloaded with 8mm bullets. I also have someone that you can mail them
to and he will reload them for about $1 a round. The rifle only is missing 2
things, the bayonet which I see them on ebay every so often, and a sling. I
had a local gun smith test fire it for me and it all checks out. I will also
include a picture of it for you. The krag has a "duffel cut" which is where the
stock has been cut into two my someone in the US military many years ago,
where it can be tucked into a military duffle and brought back as a souvinour.
the cut is behind the band and you cannot tell when rifle is assembled, this
is a very good shooting rifle and a very good condition rifle being a 1911.
everything works smoothly on it. The butt medallion is still there, the rifiling is in good shape, sharp, the
only real pitting on the entire rifle is the butt plate but its not bad,
"
Heres the pics he sent me. Not really good ones though.
Would it be a good deal? I was only asking $400 for the bike. How hard is it to find ammo.....or if it is so rare.....should it be shot?
