Got these pictures this past summer and forgot about them. Can anyone tell me what this growth might be. I was wondering if it was either a parasite or a wound gone bad. The pictures were taken in August in SouthWestern Alberta. I cropped the photos a little, so the quality may be reduced.

If that were from here in Missouri I would guess it was a tick. They probably don't get that big up north though.

We do have wood ticks up here, but usually they don't get much bigger than a pea, or gumball in extreme cases, from what I've seen. And this was in August....I thought our tick season is generallyin the early spring. Unless, the tick wound is infected or something???

That is a non cancersous growth caused by a wart like virus. It is harmless to you or the deer but I would have a hard time eating the meat just for the thought of it. The growth is only on the skin, the meat under it is fine to eat.
