My son and I will be going on our first guided hog hunt with Marty Rovenstine near San Miguel. I live in West LA where most of the butchers heck in my neighborhood all of them are Kosher. has anybody had any success with any butchers for wild pigs ( butcher fees would be good to know) in the LA area say within a 20 mile radius of the Pico-Robertson area?
Thanks;

I've had good luck with Manhattan Meats (in Manhattan beach). Charge $65 to butcher a hog and that includes sausage.
Eshbach's meats on Western Ave. and 182nd street (Gardena/Torrance) is a good place to go, they charge a per lb. fee (forget the price, but was about 75 bucks for a 125 lb pig........). They also will smoke and cure the hams or a ham for you if you so choose, and that's done at $1.00 per lb.
Me, I butcher my own hogs, and sometimes take a hind quarter to Eschbachs to have them cure and smoke it up.........
Cool, I'll have to try the places Free suggests...
There is Harmony Farms in La Canada. Jut got my pig back from there and they did a good job. They don't do links though. The flavor of the breakfast sausage is good. I haven't tried the italian yet.

If choose Manhattan Meats make sure you pick up their terriaki short ribs on the way out. A little pricey at about $6.99 lb., but they're really good.

Old Fashioned Country Butcher in Santa Paula, charged about $2 a pound last time for smoking a ham and a few other things, plenty of breakfast sausage and kielbasa, and vacuum packed them in small batches to make it easy to deal with jfor just me. I got a sow there with her from Tejon that I should be able to pick up in a few days.

Marty is a great guide, I have killed a few with him. Their is a pig butcher up near Paso that you can drop your pigs off at on your way back home. They were really cheap and great flavored sausage. Marty recommended them to me, i think the guys name John Piget, ask Marty, he'll tell you. Good luck.

Thanks guys for the replies! I did talk to Marty but the problem with the local butcher is if I dropped off the pig on say Sunday I would have to drive from LA back to Paso Robles on Wednesday which is a bit to much. Gardena or Manhattan Beach are closer i was hoping someone knew of a hog butcher in say Lemirt Park or the Crenshaw area since that is closer to where I live but the above two cities are not to far.
Thanks Again;

I had my last one done by a place in Garden Grove called Bree's Quality Meats. The address is 11877 Valley View. The phone number is (714)892-1115. I was really pleased with the product I got. It was a little on the pricer side but way worth it.
Here, here for Brees...they do a great job and are super friendly. Definitly pricey expect to pay over $100 if you get a lot of sausages.
