I just picked up my rifle that I won at the R.M.E.F. dinner. It is a winchester model 70 super shadow in 25 WSSM. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this caliber. What is the best grain bullet, How it shoots, Ect. I have a 243 win. is it close in performance to that?
Thanks.
Brian

Congrats on winning a nice rifle. Performance wise, it will be close to the 25-06. A very nice flat shooting, accurate cartridge. It is very much an overbore cartridge, so throat erosion may be a problem. You will never have to worry about it through "normal" use, but if you shoot frequently, it may become an issue. You can expect close to 3000 fps with a 120 grain bullet, quite a bit more pop than your .243. It's a dandy whitetail/elk cartridge. If you don't handload now, you may want to learn, this ammo is quite pricey and it's bound to get worse, almost all of the short magnums are no longer being manufactured.
