Howdy feller's ,

just figured i would post a pic of a big bear i killed last bow season , enjoy .

http://wsphotofews.excite.com/023/hd/fk/YQ/fn36521.jpg

this bear was a bruin and broke a few records...lol
i shot the bear with my Martin Scepter II using carbon arrows tipped with Snuffer 145 grain broadheads.
actually shot the bear twice , once at 6 steps from the base of my tree then shot him again at about 22 yards when he stopped to look back at what stung him...hehehe.
both arrows were complete passthru's and the first one was enough to kill him but hey he was still moving...hehehe
the bear didn't make it far after that, but talk about a job getting him out of the woods.
gonna shoot me a smaller one next time if the shot presents itself.....lol

Gun Doc, I take it from the thread that ya took this bear from a treestand. Just wondering if ya baited it or called him in? And for the size of it, were ya shaking just a lit'l when the dang thing was that close? Six steps, eeeow, that is pretty close. I tried stlking one year before last and scared the crap right out of me, he was a very large cinnamon. I always purchase a bear tag, and attempt to use it while deer hunting during bow season, but can't get over the weeeeelies. Anything ya can tell me to help me get past the fear of having the dang thing rip me apart after sticking it with an arrow? Job well done for you!

Gun Doc, That is an awesome bear. I shot one two years ago during bowseason that would have probably weighed in close to 400 lbs. It was a 10 yard shot that passed through. He ran about 15 yds. and stopped and then trotted off. I tracked him for over 4 hours until I lost the blood trail on a very steep rocky bluff. I was so upset that I didn't find that bear. If you have seen the pix I posted recently on the gamecamera section, you will see I have a few more bears using the area around my new treestand location. I hope my luck holds out and I can bag one as nice as the one you got. A bear with my bow is my quest.

Howdy feller's,

Yeah i took this bear from a treestand Overdrawn,
i was actually deer hunting over a feed tree when he came in. no bait except for a few acorns....lol

i never give it a second thought to shoot him...hehehe
he first came in to my right about 15 yards and he turned my way so i just waited till the shot was right then picked my spot to place an arrow.

the bear never knew what hit him as he just kinda side stepped and kept on walking , i seen the arrow hit it's mark but still i was digging to get another arrow knocked and by the time i get it on the string he just stops out at 22 yards to look back so i let him hold another..hehehe

never did get real excited till i went to tracking him and seen all the blood he was leaving and knew i made a good hit.
below is a pic of him hanging by his hind feet on a skinning gambrel and he measured a little over 7 feet while hanging. you can see how massive his forelegs are in the pic.

shoot the next one that gives you the chance because it is something else to experience. especially with your bow.

Nice biggun GunDocc. Looking at his big round head I figured he wasn't no teddy bear. We can't use bait here so it spot and stalk, hounds or varmint call them in.

Was his hide all black GunDocc? Last all black one we took had a little Superman patch on his chest in white. Did you ever measure the skull?

The first bear I helped skin I was amazed at how muscular a bear's arms and shoulder's were, even for a little 200 lb. bear.

Spectr,

yeah he was solid black all over , not a sign of any white .

as for measuring the skull ?
it is still in the freezer at the taxidermist to be made into a big rug.

i am to take it to the DNR for scoring as soon as i get it skulled out. the biologist said it was most likely to break all the pope and young plus boone and crocket records in the state. he said it was the biggest bear he had ever seen muchless checked in......lol
it broke the weight record by 10 or 12 pounds. the bear weighed in at 600 lbs live weight.

speaking of skinning ....lol
this bear had plenty of fat, felt like i had jumped in a tub of axle grease after skinning him.....hehehe

Howdy feller's,

Fubar,
about the only way to top that is ''do it again''....lol

below is another pic of this bear with my younger brother standing beside him while he was hanging on the skinning gambrel.
my brother is 6 ft 4 and weighs around 235 lbs (yeah ''little'' brother)....hehehe

you can see from the pic that the bear is just a little bigger than he is....lol
the bears nose is about 2 inches off the floor.

Yeah Gun Doc! Maybe next time I will drive an aroow home...The one I told ya about was just walking at an easy stride off the forestry road, down in a shallow draw headed for a stream. I run ahead on the road and tried to get in through the thickets to get a shot, but I couldn't see him any longer and kinda figured he ran off or he was looking at me. So I high tailed it outta there. The day before I was working the draw for some deer and heard sounds like someone was tearing a log apart, talked to the guys at camp and they said it was probably a bear looking for some critters in the log. I am pretty sure that the area that I deer hunt holds more bear than deer, cuz I see more bear track and scat than deer sign. Maybe this year, I'll hang a stand and see...still get the weeeelies! Anyway that sure sure is a nice bear ya got, and yes I'd sure like to get one with a bow!

HEY BOW KILL . I GOT LOTS OF BLACK BEARS ON MY PROPERTY BUT THEY'RE PROTECTED DOWN HERE. I LIVE IN BATON ROUGE ,LOUISIANA. LA USE TO HAVE A 2 DAY SEASON BUT THAT WAS YEARS AGO . I MUST HAVE BEEN 9 OR 10. THE NUMBERS ARE UP SO THEY MIGHT BRING THE SEASON BACK . SURE WISH THEY WOULD. I SEE BEAR AROUND MY DEER STANDS AT LEAST 80% OF THE TIME THAT IM DEER HUNTING. BUT YOU ALL KNOW IF I WAS HUNTING BEARS I WOULD SEE DEER 99%OF THE TIME.LOL http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-shakehead-blue.gif
