Well, my partner and I just got back from FHL yesterday at 11PM after a full weekend hog hunting in FHL. The pigs were gun shy from all the quail hunters firing shots all day all over. We did not get any pigs but as usual had a good time at FHL, especially with the very NICE, comfortable 2 room cabin with a fully stocked and applianced kitchen provided by Bryson Hesperia Resort. We stayed from Friday night to Saturday night . The Bryson Hesperia Resort is just a short 15 minute drive to the FHL gate and we found it very convenient. A good accomodation is always welcome news to the many hunters frequenting FHL. Many, many thanks BHR and a Happy New Year. Many thanks also JHO and a Happy New Year. Happy New Year also to RichW and Angela, nice meeting you. God Bless Y'all.

I'm gonna agree with larry. I think this was a great place to stay, especially since it is so close to the base. If you do the guided hunt, it's right there close as well. Even though we didn't see any pig, it was a great trip all in all. Deedy was an outstanding hostess, and it was a real treat to actually be able to spend a little time chatting it up.
The only suggestion I have for hunters with families (ie. kids) unless they are hunting with you, I would leave them at home or be prepared to bring a lot of entertainment for them. There's just not a lot to offer to the other family members who aren't hunting. I know maybe my situation was unique; went hunting with a 2 year old and a pregnant wife who couldn't go wine tasting...
I think we all agreed that this was definitly a good experience and it is great knowing that there is a nice friendly place to stay up there. I definitely give it http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs-up-ani.gif http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs-up-ani.gif

Hey guys, we just got back about an hour ago. Once again THANK YOU http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley_10sign.gif Dee dee and Jesse, we had an awesome time at FHL. Great meeting everyone there. First time there for us at FHL, here's a roll call of what we saw: Elk (lots everywhere, heard one bugeling this mornig), deer (running, feeding, bedded), bobcat (small one), quail (big coveys that bust from an oak tree and fly to the next ridge, only managed 1 in the bag), but no pigs. We went high and low in two TA's, and saw lots of sign (tracks, wallows, beds, holes in fences) but still no luck this time. Bryson Hesperia Resort is very close to FHL, they've got great cabins fully stocked. Happy New Year and thanks again.

Wanted to take a minute to thank Deedy, Karin, and Tammy for the great time at their Bryson resort!
I cannot tell you guys how fantastic the accomadations these ladies put out for us at the 1st annual JHO New
Years hunt were. As soon as Gtimo98 and I got there, Deedy was tellin us about great hunting spots and making sure we had everything we needed. They really made sure everyone was having fun and being well taken care of. The cabins were unbelievable! Microwaves, refridges, coffee, clean hot shower...Really got spoiled. If you guys are hunting anywhere in the area...You gotta check this place out!
It was great meeting some of the guys from Jesse's, Also wanted to thank Jesse for putting this thing together, The seminar was really informative, and also wanted to say thanks for the cool swag! I will certainly be joining in on the 2nd annual Hunt! (minus the cold). Also wanted to say thanks again to Rich... The chili was Great! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley_10sign.gif http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-jhp-rocks.gif

I'd also like to thank Deedy and Karin, in fact, I can't thank them enough - they went out of their way to help me (us) have a great stay. Their property is very close to FHL and tons of other pig properties in the area, the future should be bright for their venture, I know I'll be back. The cabins are a great place to relax get clean, eat and have fun after a hard hunt. The entire weekend was a great time in a beautiful place with very helpful owners. See you soon Deedy.

So who killed what, and what was killed?[/b]
No one killed a pig that I know of, Deedy had Tom Willoby (local guide) came by with some pigs he killed for a dressing seminar, those are the photos from that.
I am the only one with a shot on pig that I know of, I was with Jesse, he was on top glassing, I was below the hill for one last chance of finding the pig he glassed coming down the hill in front of us. It was last light late in the evening, in fact I had to use my binoculars to at 60-75 yards away to be sure he was a hog, thats how dark it was getting. Although I think I hit him (heard the thwap from the bullet), he was right off the road between TA 16, and TA 21. TA 21 is off limits, when I shot, he reared back on his haunches, and flopped on his side, then got up and ran into the scrub brush on the TA 16 side, as I walked up close, he bolted across the road into TA 21, I shot three more times on him as he was running but, I am not sure if I hit him. Went back the next day to see if I could find him close to the road, but nada.

Feathersnhoof, I'd be careful what you post on the internet. According to your post you went into training area 16, which was reserved for cow elk tag holders only! The consequences of hunting in a restricted zone would have been quite serious.

TA 16 opened up to general hunting by 2:30 pm on Sunday, which is when we went to hunt the area, everything I did and posted was 100% legal.

Hey Feathersnhoof,
We stayed until Monday also and in the morning on Monday in TA 10 13 we had seen a big black hog coming out of TA 7, was to close to the road and then lost it.
So we did see on and i think??? http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-hitting-self.gif thats where they are coming in at.
But it was a great week end and also thanks to Deedy so much for showing me around and Karen was also the best.
the whole place was great and i know i'll be back for Turkey hunting and i'm also planning all of my Hunts up there.
My Daughter in Law is my new Hunting partner and with My Son going into the Service Next week, i'll have a new hunting partner and she loved the place up there.
Thanks Deedy and Karen and Jesse thanks so much for the chance to meet great poeple and Rich thank you also for the window decal. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-ani.gif http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-jhp-rocks.gif

Feathers, Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't aware of the change on Sunday. Glad to hear everyone had a nice time despite the lack of pigs.

I'm glad somebody had the cameras going. My camera was broke and I was going to use my camcorder to take stills and the battery pack broke up there too. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-wedgie.gif
Big thanks to Deedy and all the girls at Bryson Hesperia Resort. The cabins are very nice, they even have dishwashers, something you don't see in a hunting cabin. I only saw one pig and that was the one F&H talked about, he was a toad black boar in area 16. Not sure if he was the one F&H got the shot at or not. He was in the closed zone across the canyon from us. I started out in 10/13 and watched my big boar crossing but he was a no show. I found big tracks where it looked like he had been through there in the days before. I spent some time stalking quail with my bow, trying for a shot but never connected. The quail seemed hard to find compared to most years in 10/13. Driving through area 9 we saw quail all over the place. No bobcats but I never had time to set up and call like I wanted.
I forgot the fort had been open all week because of the elk hunt so the areas got pounded hard before we got there. We might move the hunt back to President's Day next year to get a little less pressure on the hogs before we get there.
Enjoyed putting some faces to the screen names. I missed meeting Larrysgola and his hunting buddy.
Also huge thanks to Tom Willoughby and his son for showing how to skin a hog, http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hog.gif John Foster the warden and Jim from FHL for speaking at the seminar. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley_10sign.gif
One last thanks to the anonymous donor who helped chip in for the band on New Year's eve and to the band Brushfire for the music.
There's one more hog hunter to check in, RichW. He was headed over to the coast to try and whack a hog there with some friends after leaving the fort and Bryson. Maybe Rich has come dead pig pics

Duh, I've been posting in JHO Event Forum and you all are having the party here in the Hog Forum! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-hitting-self.gif
We at Bryson Resort wanted to let everyone know how honored we were to be a part of the 1st Annual JHO/Bryson Resort Hog Upland Varmint hunt. We had a really great time and loved being able to spend the New Year with you guys. The weather held nicely and a couple of you - well three now
counting Hanson, saw some hogs in your sights- not bad for our first time at Liggett - Big Country with 130,000 acres to hunt. I'd like to post a special thank you to Warden John Foster Dept of Fish and Game, Biologist Jim Kilber from Engineering & Environment Inc., Tom & Blake Willoughby from Willoughby Outfitter and Guide Services (brought both sexes of pig to show how to dress differently- I only asked for "A pig" , really thoughtful on his part) and Super Person Jesse from Jesse's Hunting and Outdoors, had the idea, guided everyone and helped with everything and comped all kinds of cool stuff like t-shirts, drink cups, stickers and books. The Black Resort Truck is stickered up! Love my free t-shirt and the other binocular/ camera holders are VERY cool- will go to the guys that helped us. Thanks for looking at the hunt lease too. Happy happy New Year to all http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley_10sign.gif http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-jhp-rocks.gif http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley_10sign.gif
Congratulations to JHO'er D7HUNTER on winning the coyote raffle! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-faces-toast-beers.gif
The raffle sales were low- you guys had odds of like 40:1 for hog, 20:1 for quail, 25:1 coyote.
Really good chances on a $1,000.00 prize for the hog hunt.
Hope to see you all soon, I'm on to building a Clubhouse and Walk-In Game Cooler. Oh yeah, working on the JHO Carp Bow Hunt & Turkey Hunts too...I see a JHO Pig Hunt in the very near future.
