View Full Version : What's your favorite handload?
Ok we've done the favorite rifle, backup handgun thing. How about your favorite handload?. Mine is a 350gr round nose Hornady bullet in 45-70. IMR 3031 and Winchester primer. Don't have the powder weight but the velocity was 1850fps through a 18 inch Marlin. Hot and hits hard!

49.5g H414 over a 55gr Balistic tip out of my Ruger #1B in .243 going right at 4000 fps and putting five shots in .4". ###Deadly coyote medicine out to 400 yards.
I have several, at least one for each gun! ###For my .223, it is 27 gr H-335, Speer TNT 50 gr HP, LC brass, Win SR primer. ### This may be a warm load in your gun, so work up to it. ###For me, it shoots well under a half inch consistently. ### This group was .343, center to center.

###In my 30.06 i like 52 grains of IMR 4064 pushing a 150 gr sp,Winchester primers.just under 3000 fps roughly.
###This one has worked for me great for along time but i really need to try some new bullets out, ballistic point or partitions maybe.

For my coyote load in a 25-06 I use 51 gr of IMR4064, CCI 200 primers and Win brass for a 75 gr V-max. I use this for 300-400 ranges and I have never had to track a wounded one. I did hit one at about 40 yards with this load and it was pretty intense. For out to about 200 yards in a .223 I use 25.5 gr of H335, CCI 400 primers and PMC brass for a 52 gr Sierra HPBT. As always, use caution when working up a load.

77gr of Reloader 22. pushing 165 gr C/T Fail safe's in .300 win mag. Fed 215 primers.
It get's my groups down to about a 1/2" and has been my deer killer for the last 4 years. I couldn't get anything to shoot under 1.5" until I got a hold of this recipe for my ruger 77.

For my .40 S&W it was and may soon again be 5.4g H Universal under a 180 jfp.
My current favorite handload thoughis Barnes 180g XLCs over 44.5 g Varget(max load) in my .308 win. Fairly accurate for me about 1 3/16"@100 traveling 2630fps out of a 20 " barrel.
