I need info on the 30-30 ackley improved , I have the chance to buy a new 14 inch barrel for my contender for $160
I am looking for complete load data and case specs. The limited info I have found shows a honest 8% increase over standard 30-30 and with being able to use spitzers instead of RN bullets this should be great from a pistol deliverying as much power down range as a rifle

I also posted this in the reloading forum but thought I might have good chance at the info in here also.

Smokin: As with all "improved" cartridges, starting loads are generally the same as the ones for the unimproved version of a given cartridge. Depending on what powders you select, you may see a velocity increase over the listed specs for this load. Such is the ideal benefit of the "improved" case: More effecient burn. Oddly, some "improved" chamberings show no increase in velocity at all, despite pressure increases. After shooting 30-06 IMP, 25 Krag-Imp, 220 Swift IMP and 6.5-06 IMP chamberings I have found that the real benifits come with the utilization of slow buring powders. I don't know what quickness of powders you'll be using in a 14" Contender but I doubt if they will be suitably slow enough to utilize that "improved" chamber. It's just a thought. I tend to view the Improved chamber as an outmoded thing these days -at least when it comes to delivering more velocity. These chamberings were developed to utilize a very limited selection of powders, many years ago. With the hi-tech propellants available today -the kind that make the "Short Magnum" series possible- the need for an Improved chamber might be moot with regards to higher velocities. My 2 cents worth.~Andy
