Hello all,
I am putting a new scope on my M70. ###I will be using 165 gr Failsafe. ###What would be the best zero yardage? ###I am thinking about 200 yards right now. ###I dont plan to shoot past 300 yards.

Jesse,
I use a 200 yard zero on my M70 with my 165, 190 and 180 grain bullets. I used to tape the bullet drop info from the range on top of my scope for each bullet, but after running out of room to write, I bought one of them pull out tape jobs that sit neatly on top of the scope. The tape pulls out about a foot and there's room to write in about 6 different bullet load drop info from 50 yard out to 400 yards. I practice out to 400 yards but keep my meat shooting under 200 yards.
I shot a ton of the Failsafes in 165 and 180 and I couldn't get my groups under 4" for some reason. The Nosler Partitions 180 grain and Win Silver Tips 190 grain ###shoot the best for my plain M70.

I will shoot mainly CA blacktail. ###Thats why I am shooting 165 gr. ###My rifle also has the BOSS system. ###Thats why I try to limit the different number of bullet wrights I use. ###I use to shoot 150 gr Power point. ###I was able to shoot .5 in groups, but I was drawn an ELK tag at Fort Hunter Liggett. ###Thats why I am changing to 165 gr. ###I have to zero the new scope and make adjustments to the different bullet weight. ###I am actually thinking about buying a totally different gun for CA Blacktail, and keeping my 300 for really big game. ###My new choice would be the Remington titanium in .270. ###Has anyone had any experience with the Remington Titanium?

You lucky *** congrats on the fhl elk tag.Last weekend I seen a herd with 4 bulls .Right there off the side of mission road almost up to the campground. Two 6x's & two 4x's .These we're not dinks either. One of them was huge & they we're about 75 yds away. What did you draw cow or bull?

###200 yrds at zero will do great for Elk hunting, you should be able to make shots out to 400 yrds with this round if your steady enough.
###But practise this long shot and get to know your drop at that distance and remember it like Spectr17 said. Also make a couple shots when you get where your going to make sure it didnt get the scope knocked around during the trip.
