### ###Anybody have a preference when it comes to custom barrels. I was going through the midway catalog and they only have Adams and Bennet barrels for the 98 action. I have a pair of 98's that have douglas barrels from the 60's one is pretty wore out. Its a short action set up so I was thinking of changing it to a .22-250. This thinking is coming out of giving up on trying to buy a new varmit rifle. The .22-250 uses a .308 bolt face so I wouldn't have to modify that, what all is involved with say converting it to a .223 with a smaller diameter rim? ###

Brian, I have two rilfles that I've put Shillen barrels on. I use the match grade and have had great results. This may or may not be pricey, I don't know but if I rebarrel one, I try to get the best I can afford. This is not to say that other aren't as good, I just don't have any experiance with them.

Brian S, I ordered one from Brownells for my Mauser in a 270. They are from Shilen and come threaded, short chambered ready to install. All the gunsmith has to do is finish the chamber and put a finish on it.
I still get a LE discount from them also, I will bring the catalog with me on the Wister trip and you could take a look. I think the barrel runs about $140.

Shilen and Douglas make fine barrels and good companies to work with.
