Have had this gun for about 12 years, gift from father. Have never heard or seen another. New to this forum and just wanted to know if any of you have ever heard of it or have one. Shoots great, always has. 4 shots @ 100 yards all touching, off of a bench obviously. But the action has really poor craftmanship. Likes to missfire. I have had a couple of gunsmiths look at it but has never been right. I will never get rid of it for sentimental reasons but would like to get it to fire all the time. Tend to get 99% of my missfires off of Remington amo. Federal almost never. Just looking for some info.

Sharpshooter, sounds like you may have a worn firing pin and/or spring. ###Some primers are tougher than others and a marginal hit on them won't be enough. ### I don't know that particular rifle, but I know a lot of smith's. ###I'll ask around for you.

Hey Sharpshooter: ###can you give more info on this rifle? ###Action type, caliber, etc. ###One of my friends has worked on these, but wants more info. He thinks you could have a headspace problem.
Later,

Vern

Colohunter,
Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner I have been really busy. It is a 30-06 bolt action with a 24" barrel.
Thonzberry, I dan't have a scanner so I can't get you any pictures, sorry.

OK SHARP SHOOTER, ###I checked with my friends, ###and without seeing it, we think it's probably headspace and/or the firing pin situation I already mentioned. ###I'd have it checked out for those items specifically. ###The check shouldn't cost much, you just insert a "no-go" gage in the chamber and close the bolt. ###If it closes, there's your problem. ###The solution is to set the barrel back and re-chamber. ###

If you wanted, you could ship the gun to the Colorado School of Trades, gunsmithing school. ###They do the work pretty cheap, if you're not in a hurry. ###My freinds and I all used to work or attend there. ###E-mail me if you want more info. ###rcivern@outdrs.net
