Hello To The Group,
I am new to JHO, but not to bird hunting have been doing it for 40 years. Quail hunt every year and have a friend at work that loves Chukar hunting. If you were to pick one place to goes where would you go ?
Attached are some pix's from the quail opener two weeks ago.
Thanks

Well, that hillside behind you in the first pic looks like a great place to go.

EMSFlyer,
That location is in the Bishop area, do not have the time for a two day thing.
Would like to do a day hunt, where did you and your wife go to get the quail and chukar pictured on the blue ice chest ?
Thanks

Welcome Radioleo.
Try a search on this forum and you'll find a wealth of information regarding chukar hunting areas. Hope this helps.
Take care,

http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-idea-blu.gif where I've been typically going since 1980 for me is close to a three hour drive, I've done it more than once for a day trip, but, prefer to go for overnight, and make it at least a day and a half hunt! That's the Rand Mts. El Pasos and Red Mt. areas, quite large, there's birds usually there, but, as most have stated, their high in the hills, and are the absolute most difficult to chase I've ever attempted.
The Cajon Pass is slated to be closed this weekend, otherwise, the lower high desert has birds also, but, they too, live in identical terrain as the above mentioned areas. I've gotten into them the past two weekends and would head there in a heartbeat if it weren't for the pass closure.
If its postponed, then I'd definitely go back for another climb after those birds, in particular, because they gave me the slip last weekend, that is to say, I didn't connect on the shots I had, and the rest gave me the "slip."
I'm more than willing to go, so, if there's some willing souls ready, contact me, let's make it happen! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-faces-toast-beers.gif

If you're just going for a day hunt I think coming up to the lower high desert will be fine. You'll only have delays going southbound on the 15 on your way home, and as long as you're not coming home on Sunday the delay will be well worth your while as there are plenty of birds up here (as long as you have the legs to go get 'em)
