Can't go wrong with a Ruger Super Blackhawk. I've got a few and love 'em. Check out the Tradin' Post...I've got one in .44 mag for sale. ### ### ### ### ### ### ### Scott

Ruger Super Blackhawk (44mag), or a Blackhawk in 45LC if you reload are good choices. ###The Ruger Vaquerro's are nice light carry guns, but your loads are limited due to the fixed sights. If you really want the best and don't mind the price a Freedom Arms in 44mag, 45LC, or 454 Casull is a excellent choice. ###Barrel length depends on how your going to carry it, shoulder holster or hip holster. ###Accuracy with a 4 5/8" is the same as a 9 1/2", it's just the longer sighting radiaus that makes the longer barrel seem more accurate. ###For general walk around use when I'm carrying a shotgun or rifle I carry a 4 5/8" Super Blackhawk Bisley (44 mag). ###For hunting I carry a 7 1/2" Freedom Arms 454 Casull. ###

Is there a minimum barrel length in CA if you are going to use the handgun as a back-up while hunting? Also. I am not too knowledgable when it comes to handgun calibers. From smallest to largest .45 .40 .44 mag ?

Here's another vote for the Ruger Blackhawk/Super Blackhawk! ###Lots of other good guns out there, but for reliability and a reasonable price, you can't hardly beat these. ###The 4 5/8" barrel would be a good carry gun. ###I like the 7 1/2" barrel just because I can handle it better at the range. ###
For deer, pigs, and small game, there is no barrel length requirement in CA. ###However, for Sheep and Elk the barrel must be a minimum of 4". ###No belly guns. ###(Mammals regulations- 353-d)

For most game Calif doesn't have a minimun barrel length requirement. ###As to calibers the most popular big game revolver calibers would be .357 mag. (marginal, short range), 41 mag, 44 mag., 45 LC ( only reaches potential with reloads or premium commercial loads), and 454 Casull. ###40 S&W is a auto round. If your not real experienced with large bore handguns I'd recommend a .357 mag, or more ideally a 41 mag. ###If you don't reload you limit yourself to whats availiable in factory loadings. ###You may also want to get a .44 mag and start off shooting 44 specials in it until you get use to it. ###Then slowly work into 44 mags. (you really want to avoid developing a flinch). ###Overall the 44 mag would be the most versitle for someone that doesn't reload. ###I really wouldn't recommend the 454 Casull to anyone who hasn't shot a lot of heavy magnum loads. ###It is a great hunting load, but is not fun to shoot after the first few rounds. ###The more I shoot my Casull the more I love my 44 mags. ### ###

My vote is for Ruger. If you are considering Hunter Liggett, I think they have a 6 in. restriction for handguns. I wouldnt want a hunting gun with a barrel shorter than 6 inches anyway. ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ###Fubar
