I just spent a couple days on BLM lands near coalinga and only glimpsed a group of three pigs that quickly disappeared into the thick brush. ###But the trip wasn't for naught. ###Lots of spring flowers in bloom, a very pretty area. ###I also learned a few things.

1. ###You are never in quite as good of shape as you think you are.
2. ###If you want to see turkeys, go pig hunting.
3. ###Always take a CHEAP pair of sunglasses.
4. ###Stepping on a gopher snake gives you the same adrenaline rush as a rattlesnake for the first 5 seconds.
5. ###You are never in quite as good of shape as you think you are.
6. ###If you want to see 5 limits worth of quail, go pig hunting.
7. ###Bring an EXTRA sweatshirt.
8. ###Sunscreen is not just for sissys.
9. ###Whoever was the first man to break trail on these public areas was an SOB that you wouldn't mess with in a bar fight.
10. ###Quail are much dumber when carrying a rifle.
11. ###A camo face cover can double as mosquito netting.
12. ###You are never in quite as good of shape as you think you are.
13. ###You can't hide a cocklebur in you wifes pot pourri dish.

Lesson to be continued on my next trip I'm sure.

I think rule #1 applies for almost all of my hunts. ###Same thing happens after I pull in multiple tuna. ###Same thing happens after I try and roller blade with my son. ###Could it be me?:weep-yellow:

Roller blade? Is that some new type of knife?

I know those lessons all to well. Those animals always seem to know what you're not hunting for and when you're too tired to chase.

And with those mosquitoes, if you wear repellent, those hogs are gonna smell you from even farther away.

I've taken on regular daily excercise to get in shape for public land hunts.

It's a true "extreme" sport. Those rock climbers are wussies! Hehe.:eatother:

I agree with most of the stuff, except for seeing turkeys while pig hunting. ###I would also like to add that I always take too much stuff and at the same time not enough. ###For instance too many clothes when the weather is warm and not enough when it is cold. ###

PS I wonder if you would have seen turkeys if you had been carrying your shotgun along with your rifle?

Another lesson is that every foxtail within 5 miles will imbed itself in my socks/pants.

Well, at least you saw pigs.

You forgot as well, that pig sign always looks fresher just a little higher up the canyon....

Thanks for the grin. ###
