A junior hunter is a person who has successfully completed their hunter education training course and has purchased their junior hunting license before their 16th birthday. The junior license is valid for the current hunting year even though they will pass their 16th birthday during that hunting season. Buy your junior license before you become 16.

Junior hunters are issued free entry permits on Type A and B Wildlife Areas and National Wildlife Refuges. The junior hunter must be accompanied by a person at least 18 years old. A person who is at least 18 years may bring up to two junior hunters to hunt with him or her.

Junior hunters are not required to purchase California Upland Game Bird Stamps or California Duck Stamps. A Federal Duck Stamp is required for hunting ducks on and after their 16th birthday. The annual Youth Waterfowl Day is open only to those hunters who have not had their 16th birthday on the event day.[/b]
