d trees, it depends on if it's work or sport, work is always on private property with an owner in need of help, and that can be walking distance. on the coast we have everything except Badger and Yote, which I used to hunt when I lived in the High Desert, ###1 hour from where I'm at now.
Traveling is fun as well, I'm going fox hunting in Sweden next month to watch some good dogs work.

### ### Terrierman,
Thats some interesting stuff. I never knew the dogs go in and tangle with the varmits, I thought they just treed them. Sounds like your pup is very talented. I would love to see an animal like that work. There is something about a dog that knows his job and does it well. Although I would hate to see my dog get hurt or worse while hunting, but hey, If you have to go, might as well go doing something you love. Anyway great pics and great pup.

Thanks EVAN.
### ### ###I read This is a the oldest known method to take care of Varmint and predators. and little has changed in the methods, except for the use of Locater Collars. This is tradtionally the working method of killing Fox that would otherwise kill Sheep and was not looked upon as "sport", like their Southern England counter parts who ride horses, with exceptionally large Hound Packs, That feel when the Fox enters the gound , the hunt is over and the Fox wins.
### Ofcourse, this is a very General over veiw, but traditionally the mongrel Terrier was for the working class, and over the course of centuries in regions where the work is warrented such as the Lake District of Northern England, Fine tuned strains of working terriers, unknown to the Show world and yet to be exploited by Kennel Clubs.
### Using a "pet" instead of a "Kennel" dog is not wise if your going to have problem with immotional attachment in any forms of Hunting. ###It might be hard to put a "pet" out their on the line and thats why most breeders will not sell them as pets, specifically speaking of Patterdale Terriers.
thanks!

How much training dose it take to get a dog to do that. I'm assuming that it's something inherited in their genes but it still sounds like it takes lots of work to get a dog to go down a hole and hold up to several hours untill you dig him out.

Acually the dogs self enter at various stages, some start early others are late starters but it's 100 % inherited.
Not to say ya can't help out young pups by building a tunnel and start them on something like Rats or Possums, to get them ready for Fox or Racoon but it's unnessesary.

Hello, yes, a couple pics are from Sweden, one from Germany the rest here...
Deadgame little guys ###they are. a Big engine shoved into a very small compact body.....
whats a trip is how small of spots they can acually enter in. NO varmint or predator is safe!
I'm always looking for Yote spots!
wonder how the terrier's would fair as hog hunters?? im curious if they could trail and bay one up , if so I would hunt one in my pack any day , i like the smaller dogs easier to get then in and out of thick brush here in texas , also have been thinking about tryig one them gsp dogs on a hog too, i have heard alot of good from guys who are using them bird dogs on hogs, curious to try one for jmyself and see.

Very interesting Terrierman.
Imagine climbing into a hole with a P.O.ed ###bull coon. Not me.
I've heard some call this "denning" where they dig out the varmint. Where I grew up in Iowa a few hunters use dogs to run down yotes.
Here's a pic a friend sent me. I can't remember what kind of dogs he has, he had some that ran the yote to tire him and then he had a kill dog he sent in once the yote bayed up.

hey RF ###I use a german Jagd terrier withy my curs and he is a lot of help,
I also use Dogo/english pointer cross for a catch dog, ###he will also wind and track his own pigs.
### I know of a guy who uses patterdales alone to hunt hogs and does have good success,
don't let the size fool you, they are very quik and smart , and quikly learn how to sit a big hog down, and keep him turning.
### They deffinatlly add alot of energy to the pack!
Ya I thought they would get the job done was just curious if anyone has used them before on hogs and if so where could i get one to try in texas
Jesse the dogs in your friends pic , are the one on the left is a walker hound or a walker mix, but i would guess a full blooded walker , the one on the right i wold have to guess and its a catahoula by his color pattern on him , or its a walker and catahoula mix , dunno if walkers come colored up like the one on the right , but i know catahoulas do, nice looking dogs tho and seems to be they are very good at thier job.

Vargy,
### ### Welcome to Jesse's. ###Though coyotes are a "no-no" for my Walkers, the thought of pursuing the praire wolf with a good pack of dogs is an exciting idea. ###My uncle ran coyote, fox and 'cat in Oklahoma with Running Walkers and Julys and they were pretty impressive. ###
### ### I look forward to your contributions to this forum in the future!
